Today we’d like to introduce you to Quentin Callewaert.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Quentin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started playing the guitar at the age of nine. My father always had a classical guitar and played as a teenager (just like every kid did in those days), and began to play around the house in hopes that one of his children would take an interest in it.
I voiced my desire to play, but he only laughed at me, thinking my hands were much too small for the instrument.
However, I was a very persistent little kid, and after weeks of pestering him, he finally gave in and began to teach me to play. From there, I began to take classical lessons and stumbled into the world of steel-string guitar.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a relatively smooth road, although there have been obstacles and struggles along the way. One of the main issues I’ve faced being a young musician is trying to balance everything in my life; music, school, and extracurricular activities, all while trying to fit in being a kid in the meantime!
Quentin Guitar – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a solo steel string, electric, and classical guitarist from the Byfield, Massachusetts area. Although I am interested in many different types of music, I focus on Americana acoustic music, as well as contemporary fingerstyle and blues.
I am most proud of the shows I’ve played throughout the years, and the wonderful musicians I have met. I have had the opportunity to play at the Larcom Theatre in Beverly, the Shalin Liu in Rockport, and the Philadelphia Folk Festival, and have met such musical legends as Lyle Lovett, Jackson Browne, Robben Ford, Jon Butcher, and Tommy Emmanuel.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, success means being able to do what you love full time, and being around family and friends. I care more about being able to pursue music as my life-long career, and less about being rich or famous.

Great article. I’ve hosted Quentin Callewaert for a house concert and it was ENORMOUSLY successful. Going to the other end of the musical spectrum, I really like Victim of Circumstance, a 3-piece band out of Hudson, NH. They are totally pro, extraordinarily talented, performing original music and great interpretations of rock classics. Their drummer, Harrison Foti, just won the 7th Annual NH Drum Festival. It would be fabulous if you would profile this up and coming band. They are just beginning to perform outside of NH (played an opener at a PawSox game and were the featured band at an open mic for young performers I host in Holliston, MA at Jasper Hill Cafe and Bistro, as well as a recent Rock Off Main at Amazing Thing in Framingham, MA. These kids are going places.
