Today we’d like to introduce you to Pete Burgess.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Started by myself, my wife Shannon and business partner Lane Parmley back in 2015. Our goal in mind was to bring the idea of restaurant and bar service to function Bartending. Offering everything from craft brew on tap to signature cocktails, we wanted to bring the concept of going to a bar to our customers. We have experienced, knowledgeable, and friendly bartenders on our staff that are seasoned veterans of the business and know exactly how to interact with customers and makes them comfortable as if they were in a restaurant or their favorite bar. Often function Bartenders just want to get through the event without making a connection to the attendees, we change that concept with “front of the house ” expertise.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth wouldn’t be the word to use as we started with an uphill battle from day one. Starting the business as an out of work Bartender I was initially staying home to take care of my wife who had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Lane is a Plymouth firefighter so stress was a key component in getting this business rolling. We started the business with just $100.00 in a bank account and scraped together money as we accumulated gigs and events. That money went to paying for proper licensing, equipment and product. We didn’t take a paycheck until 2017. Now that my wife Shannon is back on her feet and all of our schedules have been streamlined we have been able to actually bring in help from friends throughout our years of Bartending experience in various restaurants, and branched out beyond our area and book multiple events through the season.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Pour Guys Bartending Service – what should we know?
As stated before, we’re not your typical functioning Bartending service. We pay attention to detail, engage with our customers both before and during the event, and make sure customer service is above and beyond. We know there’s a heartbeat with everyone who hires us and it’s not all about numbers. Our knowledge behind the bar is also heads above the rest, as our experience stretches from small gastro pubs, fine dining and high volume concerts, festivals, and restaurants. We can pump out drinks for volume or craft a cocktail based on the customers wants, all while doing it with a smile. Customer service in our industry has become a lost art and we intend to bring it back.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Not to sound like a broken record, but customer service is everything. We are friendly and honest and treat the blue-collar farmer the same as the corporate real estate attorney. Everyone works hard and deserves to relax with a quality beverage from a friendly bartender. At the end of the day, it’s a simple formula, nobody is bleeding, it’s not the ER, Its just about good times. If we’re not having fun doing our job than our customer isn’t having fun.
