Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Eruzione.
Paul, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Winthrop, Ma is a small town. 1.6 square miles small. Growing up, I played sports every day and still stay active now but I always loved to ski. When I was in 8th grade, I saw the movie “Out Cold” about a group of friends in a tiny ski town just living life. So at that moment, I decided that at some point in my life, I would do the same! So fast forward 10 years through school and some dead-end jobs and I up and moved to Breckenridge Colorado!
My apartment was 100 yards from the mountains and I was blown away by them! So I took one simple picture and shared it with my family. You’d think that would be the end of it right? Wrong! People loved the picture! I didn’t really understand why they loved it so much but the more they told me, the more I started to see it. I realized I had an “eye” for a good picture!
So from them on, I took pictures every day and still find beautiful scenes right in front of me! Whether its a trip to the dog park, a weekend getaway or even good-ole Mother Nature, I find moments well worth capturing! Each day bring new opportunities and something new to see! I just take that extra 5 seconds to really “see” what I’m seeing!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wish I could say it was a smooth road but as bumpy as the road has been, each bump Taught me something new.
Whether it was about myself, my career, or the people in my life, I’m grateful for both the good and the bad that have happened to me. I didn’t even realize how Blind I was to what my life had become and it took some swift kicks in the behind for me to come to my senses. As I look back on the last few years now, I can’t believe I actually let myself get to that point. I often use humor when dealing with negative things so I make fun of my old self and crack jokes even if the situation is not a good one.
I’ve learned that by completely accepting what I did and what happened, its easier for me to move on. Things happened then and here I am now. You have to know where you came from before you know where you’re going but you need to know where you are now Before you can get where you want to go. Simple as that. Everything is good right now and right now is all that matters!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Paul E Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
Paul E Photography started off as a hobby change but through encouragement and word of mouth, and has turned into a small “side gig” with the potential to grow! I focus on what I like most and that is the outdoors and being active. I enjoy the mountains and ocean so I tend to find myself finding my best shots in nature. I especially like a scene that provides layers, such as the sand on a beach in front of the ocean in front of the horizon! Depth of an image can pull the viewer deeper into the picture!
When I started Paul E photography, I was at a low point in my life but I saw this venture as a way of motivating me to do more. I had to try harder and not be content and not ignore my unhappiness. Contentment is boring. I didn’t want to be boring or just a number in this big world! I see things and I want to share them! Realizing my worth and potential is what I am most proud of.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
When people think of luck, they see it as something positive most of the time. I’ve had plenty of good and bad luck in my life but I am grateful for both. I’m lucky that I happened to take that first picture of the mountain in Colorado. It was lucky that so many people happened to see it and share their encouragement.
But on the flipside, I was unlucky in other situations and found myself at the lowest point of my life. But without being at my lowest point, I never would have looked to Paul E photography as a way of pulling myself out of that period of my life!
