Meet Paul Brogna of Mass Rhythm Entertainment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Brogna.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Paul. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I truly believe, God put me on this earth to positively impact others through music. I vividly remember being a kid, just fascinated as I watched the DJ play continuous music at our family functions. At 15 years old, I finally got my first set of turntables and was a bedroom DJ.

Eventually, friends and family offered me small private parties. I started going by “DJ Brogs” – only fitting as my high school friends already called me “Brogs”. I attended UMass Dartmouth (studied Graphic Design) and was fortunate to become a go-to guy for most on-campus events, pub nights and greek events. After college, I landed weekend residencies spinning in Boston nightlife, got into DJing weddings and working more corporate events. This was all on top of a 9-5 design job – but I loved it. it never felt like “work”.

Years later, I got to a point as a single DJ where I had to turn away inquiries because I was already booked. What a good problem to have. I wanted to expand by creating a team of passionate, like-minded individuals and start something special. In just 5 short years, Mass Rhythm turned into an award-winning “Best of The Knot Hall of Fame” multi-service team.

From designing the logo and building the team, all the way down to each and every event completed and client we’ve impacted, Mass Rhythm has become my “passion project”. We don’t need to be here, we want to be here. There is no other way to describe it.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There is no such thing as a smooth road. Every failure, every struggle, every challenge is a teaching moment. We only learn the hard way. These things shape our next move, knowing what to do or not to do. If things were easy, everyone would be successful without working hard.

Picking the company name was extremely hard. I did not want to settle here and exhausted my brainstorming efforts. I finally came up with “Mass” (as in Massachusetts where I’m from and reside, but also as in big, massive, grand) and “Rhythm” (an important music term, a pattern of movements). I designed the logo which took a while until I had the “aha” moment and it all clicked!

The biggest challenge thus far was building the team from scratch. We weren’t an established group. We didn’t have dozens of years experience together. The only way to truly build the team was to start from the ground up and take guys under my wings and mold what Mass Rhythm should be. This took a long time. It physically could not happen overnight. I could guide as much as I wanted, but our new team had to gain experience and truly find themselves, and that wasn’t something anyone can teach. Our team of 1, is now successfully a team of 13 members.

The next biggest growing pain is handling the administrative side of thing. We’ve successfully transitioned from hardcopy contracts and excel files, to an online portal that our clients and team members can easily use and manage. Absolute game changer.

Please tell us about Mass Rhythm Entertainment.
We are a New England based DJ company offering DJs, Photo, Video & Lighting. We specialize in weddings, corporate and social events.

We are real DJs that blend the soundtrack to your night seamlessly across many genres, catered to what you envision. We won’t steal your spotlight, drag your guests on the floor, sing with them, or play the YMCA. There is nothing wrong with that, we’re just not those DJs. We take a less is more approach and let the music do the work.

Our Photo and Video team capture your moments in a very unobtrusive way. We love using natural light in a simplistic style. Less is more. We won’t be in your face. Unless you want us to!

With years of experience, we can guarantee to make your event exactly how you picture it – that’s all we care about. That’s all that should matter.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Had I known we would expand our services so quickly and successfully, I would have branded us as “Mass Rhythm Events”, because we are so much more than just DJs now.

The biggest thing I’ve learned is that you need to be personable in this industry. I put it equally as important as practicing your craft. Talking with others, shaking hands, having personal presence, these are essential!

Lastly, I wish I expanded sooner! Hindsight is 20/20 they say.
