Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Flynn.
Patrick, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2011, I was laid off from my job and in the months after I received a few job offers from companies looking to expand to Boston. In giving it some thought I decided that if I was going to ever start a company that was the time…If I went to work for one of those other companies, what was to stop them from laying me off in five years once I had accomplished what they wanted me to do?
So in March 2012, Northeast Suites was launched, at first out of my garage in Reading, MA. I took a loan from my 401k to buy my first electronics, housewares, linens, etc. And loaded up my truck in the mornings to head into Boston and furnish my first few apartments.
My strategy was to go to area businesses and convince them to put their employees staying in nearby hotels into my furnished apartments instead. The prices were typically less than the hotel rooms, and the employees would get a much large place with a full kitchen, bedroom, and laundry in their suite… so we gained some pretty immediate traction and word of mouth spread. I’d take the profits from each rental and pour it into another round of apartments to furnish.
Four years later we are where we are today. We have setup thousands of apartments over the years and maintain a pretty consistent inventory of about 250 furnished suites at any given time. Through the years I’ve assembled an industry-leading team to help, won industry awards for innovation and quality, and made prestigious lists like the INC500. Most importantly, to this day I am still learning and adapting to business needs and challenges every day of the week.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was never smooth! From staffing and service issues, to credit and cash-flow… I’m still learning every day how to stay on top and ahead of the competition. Always keep an open mind and don’t be afraid to make mistakes and learn from them!

We provide fully-furnished apartments throughout the US with a concentration in the Northeast. Boston is our largest market, where we place relocating executives in our furnished suites while they are here on temporary assignment or permanent relocation looking for a place to rent or purchase long term.
We are known for our high-touch customer service, even meeting our guests when they check-in to ensure they are well taken care of and settled when they arrive.
Our apartments are all-inclusive of furniture, housewares, linens, electronics, and all utilities including Wi-Fi, etc.
In 2014 we won the Corporate Housing Providers Association award for Company of the Year – a huge honor considering the age of our company! We followed that up with an award for Most Creative Marketing the year after, and have also been honored on the INC5000 Fastest Growing Companies award two years in a row which was always a goal of mine!
What were you like growing up?
My father was in the military so we traveled often throughout the US and abroad, usually a couple years in each location. That experience made it easy for me to meet new people and adapt to new surroundings.
