Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Sujballi.
Patricia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Epic Gourmet Boston began, in part, by the overwhelming demand from friends and family to be able to receive prepared food from me on a daily/weekly basis. It had been something I considered and carefully thought through for some time but needed an extra push from those who were tasting my cooking.
I often say that it was destiny, because when I think of how I arrived here, as owner of a catering company, it still makes me smile (and laugh).
When I was pregnant with our 3rd daughter, I would spend time watching the Food Netword, the Cooking Channel, and developed such a love for experimenting with dishes. When I first got married (almost 17 years ago), I was not much of a cook, but had a couple dishes learned from my mom and grandma in my repertoire. Fast forward, I attended a 16 week culinary course, sponsored by the Salvation Army’s Crok Center, here in Boston, and the love for cooking exploded.
After spending some time working for the TD Garden, Max Brenner, and being an independent chef for a mega church in the Boston area (Jubilee Christian Church), I decided to return to what made me the most fulfilled; “Creating gourmet food for everyday people, who want an extraordinary experience.” That is my company’s motto, and something I hold dear to my heart.
We have prepared foot for weddings, executive events, and done meal-prep for people wanting more than the mundane prepared meals you might find in your local grocery.
Epic has been, and continues to be a journey of a lifetime!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has certainly not been smooth, but has been worth it.
One of the biggest challenges has been to quickly develop business acumen, which required lots of help from my husband (who is a general manager of another company), along with other supportive people in our lives.
From advice about accounting and payroll, to the type of licensing necessary to operate, there have been several speed bumps, but I take everything that has happened as a lesson learned.
Also, being able to scale the business while attracting new clients has taken some time to figure out, but we’re certainly on the right track.
Please tell us about Epic Gourmet Boston.
Epic Gourmet Boston is a full scale catering company.
Epic is known for the amazing blend of options (ranging from Caribbean to traditional American, to authentic Italian and a Greek dishes), while being extremely delicious. We create some of the most mouth-watering dishes you’ll ever get the opportunity to enjoy!
We are most proud of the relationships we build with our clients. Once they’ve experienced Epic, they refer is to their friends for weddings, to the coworkers for meal prep, and even to music artists who are in town for concerts, who want an amazing meal before boarding the plane back home.
With Epic, the food is great and the customer service is just as great. I believe that is what sets us apart.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is the time spent daydreaming of coming to the U.S., and all of the many great things I could achieve once I arrived.
Climbing trees and eating fresh mangos was pretty sweet also!
