Pat, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Beach Plum Flower Shop has been in existence for 25 years in the downtown Newburyport area — The Tannery. It was passed along to me about 3 years ago and I began to solidify the image and brand into a stronghold of the community. We are such a special and integral part of the Newburyport Community– for over 25 years we have been part of celebrating weddings, shop and restaurant openings, funerals, garden parties, corporate events, graduation and births and baptisms to simply the everyday love that surrounds our community.
We deliver from Boston to Portland ME and truly love our customers. We are friendly and cater to our customers unique and high-quality floral needs. We love partnering with other local businesses, for example, offering candles and other gifts as add on’s from Piper and Chloe, present in the greeting area at Mill 77 for plants and other cool garden ware, adding Mill River wine in our gift baskets, exclusive florals at Barn at Bradstreet in Rowley, selling Pam Older jewelry at Holidays and partnering with culinary events with Port Plum.
We love our partnerships and value our growth in Newburyport and the Northshore area. We have over 30 years of floral design experience and love flowers and our customers!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We are a business that is seasonal — so we are a very special flower shop in that we offer more to our customers — we offer an “experience” in our shop in The Tannery from an extensive variety of plant life and garden decor and have an expansive and unique (such as floral walls) event business. Our goal is to have Beach Plum Flower Shop create an inspiring and sense of happiness in the environment as you enjoy walking around the shop.
We “shop share” with the awesome local shop, Piper and Chloe, a curated boutique which offers unique, hip & original goods for you and your home– and “announcing soon”– another exciting complementary business, promising to be extremely tasty and local.
Please tell us about Beach Plum Flower Shop.
We are a unique and extremely special flower shop– we offer custom design arrangements and our designers have over 35 years of experience in the floral industry. Our creative director, Lisa Greene, AIFD, SAF, is meticulous, dedicated and passionate about each and every floral arrangement she creates.
We love the everyday, weddings and events, community celebrations and sympathy arrangements. We have designed (and won an award) for the Boston Flower Show – designed and installed various arches filled with greens and florals, Restaurant decor such as permanent bamboo wall arrangements, are just a few of the floral decor we have created. We love to inspire and be ambitious about our floral design.
But we specialize in truly caring and creating the most gorgeous arrangements and florals for each individual customer that we have. We have delivery and internet ordering services. We definitely go above and beyond to make sure our customer’s expectations are exceeded.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my favorite memories from my childhood is building gardens in my backyard and watching and waiting to see how the garden and the flowers created a synergy of energy and happiness that would bring joy, inspiration, and peace to people.
