Meet Pam Goodale of Station8 Salon in Jamaica Plain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pam Goodale.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Pam. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I had been working on Newbury Street for about 17 years and I was ready for a change of atmosphere; something more personal and less hectic. Jamaica Plain seemed to be evolving into the next up and coming neighborhood with a welcoming sense of community. JP had great bars, restaurants and shops, but I could see that it was lacking a higher end salon. I knew that this would be an ideal location for me to begin my journey as a small business owner and if I didn’t do it, someone else would. My friend, who has a background in business, heard my idea and wanted to branch out into new territory. So station8 was born.

In November 2017, it will be 9 years since we opened.

Has it been a smooth road?
I originally had two partners. One was a fellow stylist that I had worked with since 1999 and our third partner has a business background. About 4 years into our 1st lease, my stylist partner decided to go his own way.
It was pretty challenging at first. We were growing at a rapid pace and I had a staff of 25 people that needed consistency and stability, so there was no time for me to have a pity party for myself for more than a minute. But I soon realized that there’s a reason for everything and I think that having him leave ultimately made me a better person, stylist, and employer.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with station8salon – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Station8 is a full service salon, with the exception of nails. We have a large and diverse clientele that ranges in age from as young as 10 years old to 85+ years young (we do not service children under 10 years for a number of reasons). We strive to have a chill atmosphere; a place where, for a few hours, you can let go of the stress of your daily life. My goal is to provide quality of service at reasonable prices and most importantly, excellent customer service. When I have a guest in my chair, I strive to make that person feel like she/he is the most important person in the world.

I am proud that a good number of my stylists have come up through my training program. They start out as assistants and work their way to a chair. We have assembled a pretty amazing team here at station8. They are passionate and really do care about their guests.

When we opened in 2009, the economy was terrible. People said we were crazy and it was a huge risk. Well, 9 years later we’re still here and doing pretty awesome.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Best: The diversity (in JP). You find people from all walks of life here and their ability to respect and co-exist one another, no matter your background is very unique. I love all the green spaces throughout the city. There is no shortage of spaces to walk my dog. AND we are the BEST sports city in the country.

Least: The weather. Potholes.

Pricing:

  • Haircuts range from $40.00 – $100.00 based on the level of experience.

Well, well, well Pam. I am so happy for you. Long time ago, on 30 Newbury St, you became my stylist. It was July and you appropriately had red, white and blue hair. I too love short hair and you took such great care of me for many years, and some moves. I now live in Florida and still insist on a master hair stylist. I drive about 30 miles monthly to go to my stylist and colorist. You were my first “upscale” stylist and I am so happy that I met you. Continuing success to you. You are an amazing young lady!
