Meet Norman Jaillet of Norman Jaillet Photography in Peabody

Today we’d like to introduce you to Norman Jaillet.

Norman, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was into theater in high school, and in college I was a double major, theater and business – so I guess you can say that my interest in the theater arts started at a young age.

I’ve had the opportunity to travel the world, and spent a couple of years in Singapore as an expat. In 2012, my daughter needed a new camera for college. So like any good dad, I bought her a new camera, and also being a lucky dad, I got her hand-me-down. Thus began my new adventure. I shot the CrossFit Asia Regional competition as well as local competitions and landscapes, and upgraded my equipment as I got better.

Singapore turned out to be a nice launching spot to hit other parts of Asia for short vacations, and it was on a trip to Cambodia that I began photographing people. Lots of people. And even more people. I became very interested in the human face and how we emote as individuals, and the impression one gets in a split second of that interaction.

We returned home to the Boston area from Singapore in late 2014, and in 2015 I met Peter Hurley and attended his Headshot Intensive workshop in NYC. Through that network I’ve met and learned from many photographers across the globe. That’s also where the desire to return to my “artsy” side came into play and when I decided to begin a second career that was distinctly different from the first. I’ve been very fortunate to make a decent living as an executive, but decided it was time for a change.

I’ve come full circle – visual arts to business and back to visual arts, and I’ve brought these skills together to for my clients, to deliver the best photo of you that you have ever had!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If it’s a smooth road you’re not working hard enough. All paths have either stumbling blocks or stepping stones. It took a lot of thinking and planning to leave the security of the business world, but once I made that decision, I knew that this was the right path for me. I’m very lucky to have a local and global network of talented photographers and artists who are a great community. In addition, I’ve met some outstanding actors and models here in the US who have been tremendous artistic collaborators! I love my studio, it’s not far from home, in a mill building and I have my own restroom/private changing area. It’s a win for my clients. In short, I’m confident that this is the right path for me.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Norman Jaillet Photography – what should we know?
My company is Stormin Studios LLC d/b/a Norman Jaillet Photography (https://www.normanjailletphotography.com). I specialize in headshot and portrait photography for the artistic community as well as companies, families, LinkedIn profiles, all social media and those on dating sites. I believe that every face tells a story, and am proud of my ability to establish a connection with my client and create an image that allows me to reveal their own approachability, confidence and uniqueness and that captures the essence of who they really are.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe my ability to connect and develop relationships has followed me from my business career into being a headshot photographer. I’m able to understand and connect with people of all ages from all strata of society. I’ve been fortunate in my past career to visit, see and appreciate other cultures and have the ability to adapt and understand people. I tend to read body language fairly well and my ability to make you at ease in capturing a great headshot speaks volumes. Being in front of a camera is intimidating, but having the right coach to capture an expression that defines who you are is something I take pride in.

Great article and true to the Norm Jaillet I have known. Norm does have a unique way to connect with clients. His ability to lighten the mood and capture “the person” is a testament to his creativity and wry humor.
