Today we’d like to introduce you to Remi Ibraheem.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My company began 34 years ago when I first entered this country at the age of 10. I didn’t know how to read or write or speak English. By the age of 12, I spoke fluent English and read every book I could get my hands on. I was such an avid reader that a woman on my paper route left me her entire book collection when she passed away when I was 13 years old.
Twenty years later, while commuting everyday into Boston to work from the North Shore and after I have read most books in her collection as well as discovered a few authors of my own, I made the scary and bold decision to write a science fiction book series. The attempt began well enough then quickly became daunting in its scope. The more I learned the craft of writing and developed my story, the tougher the process became. I knew there had to an easier more efficient way to create my stories, build worlds and develop characters or it would take me another 30 years to accomplish my goals.
After six years of writing several first and second drafts in my series, I developed an algorithm that changed the way I wrote and can innovate way other writers and non-writers tackle the problem, joy and daunting task of writing a book. I have used the tool on several well-known writers in romance, fiction and memoir writing the tool would be useful for all genres, fiction and nonfiction.
Nibnook (Story nib) is like GPS for writers. It knows where you are and where you are going and provides a personalized workspace that takes you from idea to draft.
Four years later, after successfully building the proof of concept and patenting the software, I’m ready to launch the website and seeking initial investment that will allow me to launch it online by the end of the year.
I’m afraid I may be too early for your magazine because I have not launched yet but please let me know if there is anything else I can do.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My struggles have been numerous and although I had felt hopeless in these moments of challenges, I have come to understand that those delays had been profoundly useful to the further development of the tool and website and the evolution of myself as a business women.
I have had difficulty finding the right developer to build the initial proof of concept software. (Finding the right developer is one of the toughest jobs one can have when creating a software. It took me three years to find the person who understood how the back end algorithm worked and how to make the front end seamless to the writer.) I have had challenges navigating the world of funding as most first time entrepreneurs do. I have had to strengthen my resolve to move forward despite efforts of some in dissuading me about the potential of my cause although most have not known exactly what my tool did. I have had to develop faith and confidence in myself and my potential to bring it all to fruition.
Please tell us about Nibnook – name change is pending because Barnes and Nobles have the trade right to nook.
Sage drop, Inc. The company I founded that will release the website is dedicated to the advancement of intuitive technologies whose purpose is to help people accomplish their goals.
Its first product, Nibnook (Storynib) is a website dedicated to helping people accomplish their writing goals. It maps the writer’s story from beginning to end and develops characters and builds worlds within minutes all while providing a space to share and collaborate with others.
Nibnook (Storynib) is different from other writing software and platform because it intuitively maps the writers story and provides a guided writing nook with data about every aspect of the writer’s story.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood was the moment I finished reading the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It hurt so much to be out of the world of CS Lewis that it was the first time I understood the power of writing. I wanted to live in his world forever. It’s where I first discovered my love for books that took place within a series, where the stories never ended.
