Meet Nathalia Jmag in Framingham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathalia Jmag.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nathalia . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my brand after graduating college and participating in Project Runway Season 15 in 2016. I started it because I studied fashion design and retailing and I wanted to create a brand that was the change I wanted to see in the fashion industry. Before I became a designer I was always an environmentalist and I love of nature. During school when I learned about how harmful the fashion industry was to people, the environment and animals it really broke my heart I almost quit my major because I didn’t want to be part of something that made the world a worse place. But then something dawned on me and I realized; actually I can be part of the solution and that’s what led me to create Nathalia Jmag

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had lots of ups and downs since starting Nathalia Jmag but overall it has been an extremely fun and rewarding career. Going on Project Runway right after graduating was both a challenge and a blessing. Doing the show helped me grow so much as a designer(and person) and it helped a lot in the process of discovering who I wanted to be and who I am as a designer. It was challenging because of the experience itself; being away from my family and friends for two months and not being able to speak to them for that whole time was extremely challenging. It is also challenging to be your own boss and to juggle so many different aspects of a business; I don’t only have to do the designing but the sewing, marketing, packing, shipping, fabric sourcing, styling and so much more! I do have a couple of interns who come and help from time to time but for the most part I run a one woman show.

Please tell us about Nathalia Jmag.
I make mostly womenswear and sometimes menswear. What sets me apart is that my fashion business goes beyond aesthetics, my main focus is sustainability and eco friendliness, I don’t only want to run a business but I also want it to be somewhat of a social and environmental enterprise. I incorporate my values and ethics into everything I do because I believe fashion doesn’t have to hurt people animals or the environment to be beautiful and functional. I am most proud of participating in the part of the fashion industry that is working to change the industry for the better.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I have many but most of them involve nature like the first time I experienced a snow storm after moving here from Colombia when I was 7yo and my first time swimming in the ocean!
