Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Vulevic.
Natalie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Ever since I was a little girl I’ve had such big aspersions. I have always dreamt of traveling the world and living a life of passion and fulfillment. Growing up I always wanted to be a model and be a part of the fashion industry, I’ve always had a creative mind and loved being in front of the camera. However, I didn’t start modeling until I was about 20. The reason why I started so late even though it was always a dream to me was because throughout life I was always focused on surviving day by day. When I was 8 my father died in a tragic way and that took a toll on my family and me, and still does to this day. Since I was so busy trying to figure out who I was and what I was missing- I thought being a successful model only happened to “lucky” people. One day I woke and realized anyone can be “lucky” if they follow their dreams and never give up. So when I started to model I had to learn everything on my own- I was going into this blind. So I found local photographers and started doing any type of photo shoot I can to practice and learn how to pose in front of the camera. I have come a long way since my first photo shoot. I feel comfortable modeling now and I love every second of it. While perusing my modeling career I have made great connections along the way. I landed a job with FNL Network. This is a network that covers fashion events around the world. Since working with the FNL team I have hosted two seasons of New York Fashion Week, and soon I will be hosting Miami swim week, also travel to Milan and Paris for the fashion weeks there. While hosting, I get to interview designers, models, makeup and hair artists and celebrities! I love this job and learning so much about the fashion industry. It’s truly amazing what a little hard work and belief in yourself can do for you. I started 2 years ago not knowing a SINGLE THING about modeling or being a TV personality.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
They say the best success stories are never smooth! There has been many bumps in the road while following my dreams. I’ve been rejected, not taken seriously, and not supported even by some friends and family. I think when you’re on a path that not many people think is possible they try and shoot down your dreams because they’re scared to take chances. I’ve had people I’m too big to model (I’m a size 2 or 4 at the most) but I don’t let it stop me! There has always been at least one person to break the rules and become successful. You can truly do anything as long as you never give up- no matter how defeated you may feel, it always passes.
Natalie Vulevic – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a model and a TV host. I work with photographers to build their portfolios and vice versa for mine. I’m currently trying to get signed to an agency either in New York, Miami, Boston or LA. Whoever will give me the chance! My goal is to be a professional fashion/editorial model. Doing work for magazines, commercials, and ad campaigns. My other job is hosting for FNL Network. On camera I interview designers about their collections, models about their jobs, and celebrities about what they do! I’m so proud to be a part of the FNL team and follow my dreams in fashion. I would say what sets me apart is my mindset; for someone of my age (22) I’ve been through a lot of things in my life that makes me so determined and strong.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is happiness and fulfillment. No matter what you love, it could be fashion, nursing, teaching, cooking- whatever it may be, being successful is reaching your highest potential in the things you love. Success is also financial freedom. What does this mean? Do I think money is the answer to happiness? Absolutely not. However, financial freedom is never having to worry about not being able to pay a credit card bill, or not have money for college, or not being able to see the world and all its glory because you can’t afford it. Success to me is following your dreams, love, family, and waking up everyday to a life you don’t need a vacation from.
