Meet Nancy Zare of Rapport Builderz in MetroWest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Zare.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nancy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born a psychologist. Although not formally trained until a young adult, I did a lot of counseling with my family growing up. One of my earliest memories is hearing my parents fight: loud voices, cupboards banging; glass breaking, doors slamming. It was frightening to witness this happening as the youngest child and only girl. Yet I wanted to bring peace and, at an early age, became a mediator helping the adults and older siblings communicate with one another.

Once I began college, I studied psychology and later social work. I received financial aid that required me to work. I was placed at the Alcohol Study Unit of Boston City Hospital, which introduced me to 12-step recovery programs as a tool to help people with addiction issues. This experience paved the way for other opportunities including graduate work sponsored by the National Institute of Alcohol Addiction and Alcoholism. My knowledge in this field resulted in several published articles and eventually a book.

In time I identified having my own addictive thinking and am actively working a program of recovery. I’m honored to sponsor many women as I share my experience and help us untangle our distorted thinking.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
All entrepreneurial endeavors are paved with struggles. My company is still in a growth phase. That’s what makes this venture so exciting and compelling. Finding the focus, identifying the ideal target market, formulating our message, and attracting a client base have all been challenging tasks. Access to additional capital and human resources would have made the journey easier!

Please tell us about Rapport Builderz.
As a sales psychologist, I help my clients increase their closing percentage, which directly impacts their bottom line. My primary tool is a system I call AlikeAbility(TM). I define AlikeAbility(TM) as a skill that raises the perception of being alike the other person. AlikeAbility(TM) lowers resistance and builds trust.

How did I develop the AlikeAbility (TM) System? In college, I majored in psychology and eventually earned both masters and doctoral degree. Overtly I had no interest in sales; however, upon graduation, I found myself marketing (selling) mental health services in the workplace. Not having any formal knowledge of how to sell, I consulted the library to learn some general principles. Later I became certified and trained in sales.

The AlikeAbility(TM) System is based on the Platinum Rule: Do unto others as they would have done for themselves. Rapport develops quickly and authentically when you look through the lens of prospects and speak their language. I founded Rapport Builderz 5 years ago. We provide training, coaching, and consultation in the area of effective communication with prospects and colleagues,

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Riding my bike with my friend Donna to the park where we rode horses and had a picnic lunch.
