Meet Leslie Glickman & Linda Wise of N.E.C. Trophies in Ashland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Glickman & Linda Wise.

Leslie & Linda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 1989 we had the opportunity to purchase N.E.C. trophies. After researching the business, we purchased it as two couples, who were and still are friends. However, we women run the daily operations, along with a young man who has been working for us for over 10 years. We have grown the business to include imprinted promotional products as well as trophies, acrylic and glass awards, plaques, clocks and corporate awards.

After 28 years we are still having fun most days and enjoy meeting new people every day. We have a lot of repeat customers who have become like family. This business is about making people happy.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Since neither of us had any experience in this industry (dental assistant and school aide), we learned by the seat of our pants. The first year was exhausting since most days we closed the door at the end of the day and stayed at the store, along with our husbands who came after work to help us finish orders. We did a lot of ordering in for dinner!

Our computer skills were also weak and since everything was computerized as far as the engraving went, we had to learn as we went along. After the first-year things got a lot easier. We went to the big show in Las Vegas to meet many of the vendors and see the various products. What an eye opener.

N.E.C. Trophies – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
N.E.C. trophies sets us apart from most online companies since we do almost everything in house. We design and assemble all of our trophies so our customers and can choose the color, style, figure size, etc. There is a wide selection of plaques and acrylic and glass awards as well. Our niche in the imprinted promotional products is wearables, both screened and embroidered.

We pride ourselves on being customer friendly and listening to our customers. We take the time to research an item that our customer is requesting if we do not stock it. Also, we can do rush orders with a smile.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Making memories for our customers. We also give back to the community by donating to many organizations, schools, and associations.
