Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Muzzamal Habib.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Like many boys growing up, I dreamed to be a race car driver and then fighter pilot in my childhood. Tragic death of a beloved uncle made me to do something more meaningful & I decided to pursue medicine. I graduated with Gold medal and honors in class in Punjab Medical University College, Pakistan. During my undergraduate and post graduate training cardiology always fascinated me. To pursue further training in the field I loved, I moved to Ireland where I trained in general & interventional cardiology and vascular medicine. Vein and wound care was a big part of vascular medicine training & experience.
I visited the US in 2004 as my honeymoon and fell in love with it, and that is when I had an American Dream. I moved to the US in 2008 and underwent further training in St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Boston, MA. I loved training and teaching in the US health system but also saw slow transition of medicine into a conveyer belt mentality. I always had loved personal connection to my patients and they become my extended family. I started Boston Vein Care in 2013 where I aimed to provide a very personal and compassionate care.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would be lying if I said that it was smooth sailing from the start. A lot of hard work and sweat went into starting this practice. It was not easy to navigate the medical insurance world and other bumps along the way, but my patients were a big source of encouragement. They loved the personal care and attention and appreciated the best effort we made to get the best possible cosmetic and esthetic results while relieving their crippling symptoms and getting back on their feet. Patient satisfaction and words of thanks were life savers and still work as solace on some of the worse days.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Boston Vein Care – what should we know?
Boston Vein Care is well known as a comprehensive vein and vascular center. It diagnoses and treats a full spectrum of venous disease, starting from spider veins for cosmetic concerns and varicose veins with severe pain and leg swellings. We also treat complications of untreated varicose veins like leg discoloration, inflammation of skin (venous stasis dermatitis) and venous ulcers.
Unlike many hospital based practices, we know our patients more than just their names and they are not just a number for us. We provide this personal and compassionate care in our convenient office locations. We really pride ourselves on our patient satisfaction, which is close to 100%. In healthcare we cannot always guarantee the desired outcomes, but we assure our best efforts to get symptom relief and bring the best possible esthetic results, which shows in our patient satisfaction results. Another differentiating point for Boston Vein Care is the convenience of getting 99% of services under one roof, starting from the first consultation to vascular testing like ultrasounds and the required treatments, all of which are provided in our safe and convenient office environment.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We are quality conscious organization. We have basic but stringent procedures and protocols in our office which we believe play an important role in patent safety and treatment efficacy. In recognition of our quality initiatives and unrelenting efforts to improve and standardize our work flow at Boston Vein Care, we were accredited by International Accreditation Commission. We have also credentialed with major insurance companies in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. List of insurances also includes Masshealth, Medicaid of New Hampshire and Medicare. All these accreditation and credentialing helps us to bill patient insurance companies directly for those patients whose vein problems are causing them symptoms like leg pain, leg swelling, itching, burning, bruising, leg heaviness or general leg weakness and slowing down from swelling or wounds with or without prominent veins.
