Meet Courtney Harvey of Mill Street Design in New Hampshire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Harvey.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Courtney. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got started in my entrepreneurial journey because I had a lot to prove. For years I had this belief about myself that I wasn’t good enough or smart enough to design well or learn new techniques on the computer.

Eventually, I had had enough of this story that I was practically manifesting into my life. I had to prove to myself that I could take my passion for serving others and creating joy for those around me, along with my passion for a design career and create this life I had always dreamed of.

When I finally decided to take the leap into business ownership, it was as if someone had flipped a switch on. It took a long time for me to see the light I had to offer my community, and my biggest joy now is helping others to see and share theirs.

Has it been a smooth road?
Yes and no! I don’t think anything worth having is going to be smooth sailing. I will say that there has always been work, which has made a massive difference in my success story, and I am incredibly grateful.

About two months into my first year of business, I broke and dislocated my ankle and needed surgery, along with ten weeks in a hard cast. This really limited me in so many ways but it also required me to put my head down and work. I couldn’t just run into a coffee shop and “work” for a few hours, or meet so and so here for lunch, I had to be home, and what else is there to do…but work? This time truly propelled my career. I could no longer *easily* go to networking events or client meetings. This time of immobility really pushed me to work in different ways and test my resilience because it would have been easy to give up.

There were a million reasons why I could have given up, but the handful of reasons I have to succeed far outweighs those excuses.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mill Street Design – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am most proud of my ability to really hear what my clients are sharing with me and what they are needing in their branding design. When I take the time to listen, I can create designs that are cohesive with their brand and reflective of their message.

What sets me apart is my unwavering positivity. I think a lot of my job is to help my clients see, in those tiny moments of doubt and fear – that they ARE worthy of whatever it is they work and ask for. To have them feel like they have someone on their side, working for them is reassuring to my clients.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I absolutely love the energy that Boston offers. I love the parks, the restaurants and the museums. I always leave feeling excited, rejuvenated.

Being a small town NH gal who spent years living in NYC, I can’t stand driving in Boston. I’ve done it maybe five times because I am just so darn scared.
