Meet Milinda McGraw of M.J. & Associates in South Shore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Milinda McGraw.

Milinda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 1984 I was managing a health spa, I came to work one day to find a big chain on the door & the owners had vanished! One of my members had always tried to get me to take the real estate course, she thought I would be great at it! Well, now that I unexpectedly had no job & 4 kids to feed, that’s exactly what I did. I worked for a few different companies, and got my Brokers license before deciding in 1994 to go out on my own and open M. J. & Associates.

For a single mom of four, it was a very big scary move for me, but here I am still doing what I love! I love finding Buyers their dream home or their first home or helping a seller downsize or sell to go into an assisted living facility. The years are a blur, but I made it!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Has it been a Smooth road? No, not at all! Living on a commission based business and raising children is not an easy task. I have been close to foreclosure more than once, struggled many times to keep food on the table & heat turned on. I have done it! My kids are grown and thriving! I am so much stronger than I was in the beginning.

Please tell us about M.J. & Associates.
We service Massachusetts but concentrate on South of Boston, and Cape Cod. My company mainly works with residential buyers and sellers, but also have builders & investors that we find homes for.

We specialize in honesty, loyalty, and taking good care of our clients. I am proud of our integrity and the fact that most of our business comes from repeat clients. Being a small company gives me a lot more control over the process and lets me take better care of our clients. We will also do home staging. Right now there 3 of us, Karen Bonitto, Gary Stein & myself. Karen is a very dear friend as well as a great real estate sales associate and she has been with me over 20 years now.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have gone on my own sooner.
