Meet Michelle Meagher of CAUSE Hair Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Meagher.

Michelle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey started 5 years ago when my mother was diagnosed with Stage IV Ovarian Cancer.

When my beautiful mother was told she had this deadly disease eating away at her body, we as a family, were devastated. Coming from a very close, French, catholic family we would stand by our mother (and father) every step of the way.

My mother was sent to Mass General Hospital immediately where she underwent the “degutting” process. Only to lead her into ICU for a week, due to infections. After being at Mass General for a month, she was released with an open stomach and wound vac attached.

Not long after leaving Mass General, we begin the Chemotherapy process. Mom loses her hair and we make an appointment with a local wig center. My whole family joins in the process of helping Mom find a wig that looks just like her everyday hair. We left this wig business very disappointed. There was no care for the client. It was all about the money. Just devastating.

We made our way to the next closest wig business…. AGAIN, we left feeling horrible.

I cried, “how could someone in this line of business be so cold?”

That is when I made the life changing decision to combine the passions that I LOVE.

DOING HAIR, HELPING OTHERS, & making people feel BEAUTIFUL on the inside and out!

I had been doing hair for 20 years already… why not educate myself on wigs and have a private wig center?

I can do this… Next morning, I was on the phone with every resource I had to help me get started on this journey.

Two years later CAUSE Hair Salon was born. Not only do we have a beautiful full-service Salon, including massage, pedicures and manicures, but we also have a PRIVATE wig center for people in need of hair replacement.

We have now been open a little over a year and have been ranked one of the top 3 Salons in the Seacoast area. I’m so very proud to be doing something that I’m so very passionate about. I know my Mama is looking down smiling at me.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
If anyone says opening a small business is easy, they are definitely not telling the truth.

The struggle for me was 1. Finding the perfect space…. 2. Meeting the City’s codes 3. Financing 4. Finding exceptional stylists who had the same passions as mine

CAUSE Hair Salon – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m most proud to be able to make everyone who walks in here feel absolutely beautiful…

We are an all organic salon.

We have a private wig center.

We specialize in corrective color, unique cuts, we have ongoing education so we are always up to date with the latest trends, and hair extensions.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is when clients walk out our door feeling the best ever. When you hear people talking about what an amazing salon you have.

I am not in competition with anyone…… I believe in helping other salons in any way I can. My belief is what makes you different than others?… Why would someone pick going to your salon over someone else? Strive to always do better and to always help others.
