Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Indresano.
Michael, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My junior year of high school, I quit football for photography. My friends made fun of me at first but then their attitude quickly shifted when I started to get images of them published in the local newspaper. From there, I decided I wanted to pursue photography as a career and chose to go to the New England School of Photography to hone my craft. After graduation, I worked in Boston assisting for other commercial photographers for a few years before deciding to go out on my own. I started my company, Michael Indresano Photography, 25 years ago and have been working in the commercial photography industry ever since. I am just as passionate about photography and the industry today as I was in the beginning.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been more a less a smooth road, but there are always some challenges in adapting to the shifting industry. I would say the toughest time for the business was when the recession hit in 2001. The creative industry was especially hard hit, and photographers even more so. I saw a lot of my friends in the industry having to close their doors. We were fortunate enough to be well diversified with the types of clients we worked with, and were able to stay open throughout the recession.
Please tell us about Michael Indresano Photography.
Michael Indresano Photography is a commercial photography and videography studio located in the heart of Boston. We are a full service studio that can produce a photography or video shoot from scratch through the final ad or commercial.
Unlike many commercial photographers, we have striven to keep a diverse list of clients, from food to technology to athletes. Throughout all of our work, however, we are known for our dramatic and beautiful lighting. I’ve worked throughout my career to be able to use lighting to turn even the most ordinary of product into a work of art.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
That’s a tough question, as I had so many good memories growing up. Some of my favorite memories were traveling to Italy during the summers. My parents are from Italy, so we would visit often in the summer to see our extended family. We have a smaller immediate family in the states, so it was always so much fun to see everyone and be able to catch up with all my cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc.
