Meet Meghann Ward of Tapestry in Fenway

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghann Ward.

Meghann, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I changed careers at 25 and found myself amongst a very young, very experienced team of cooks at Radius restaurant in Boston. I spent three and a half years there, leaving as sous chef. I then moved to California to work at 2 star Michelin restaurant, Michael Mina in San Francisco. After that, I became part of the opening crew of James Beard award winning restaurant Flour and Water. After three exciting years, moved home to Boston to become executive sous chef of Rialto. After that, I was hired by Ken Oringer to be the opening chef of Earth at Hidden Pond in Maine. I spent two summers there while extensively traveling and staging in the winter months. I was then asked to move back to Boston to be the executive chef for Oringer and Bissionette’s restaurant, Coppa in the South End.

Since then, I have opened Tapestry. This beautiful space in the Fenway has two distinct dining concepts. On one side, we have a Neapolitan Pizzeria (Expo Kitchen) and on the other hand, we have a Miami style lounge with travel inspired cuisine (Club Room).

Has it been a smooth road?
It was a wonderful road of cooking, traveling and eating for 15 years. Since opening our own restaurant we have faced enormous challenges including loosing our business partner to suicide and my other business partner to divorce. However, I still love to cook and lead a team. That’s what keeps me coming back to Tapestry and enjoying every day here.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Tapestry is very unique in terms of esthetics, food and attitude.

Our staff aims to throw a nightly dinner party. Service is very relaxed and it feels like home.

Our food ranges from true Neapolitan pizzas to dishes inspired by all of my travels in Europe, Asia and South America.

Expo Kitchen has bar games, plays 90’s hip hop and has a great local beer program. Club room feels like mid-century Havana with palm trees, murals, velvet furniture and a four sided fireplace.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Boston’s restaurant scene has preemptively responded to our insane housing boom. As more people move in, business will improve for everyone. However, the cost of living is so high, that many Bostonians opt to go out for fast casual dining rather than full service restaurants. This is a problem that I don’t see going away.
