Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg Tartasky.
Meg, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
MEM Tea was founded in 1999 by Mark Mooradian, a visionary and inspiring tea lover. I was lucky enough to work for him for a year before he sold the business in 2008. I began working at MEM Tea in order to take a break from the service industry, and enjoy the 9 to 5 with weekends off grind. I started in the office taking orders and processing them for our many wholesale customers spread throughout the greater Boston area. 9 years later I am the Vice President and Head of Sales at MEM. I’ve worked almost every position in the company throughout the years, and have grown to enjoy this position the most. Each day, I love and appreciate the product I represent more and more.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s rare to find employment that doesn’t offer some bumps, twists, and turns along the way. Some struggles that I have overcome so far have been writing programs and systems from scratch to accommodate a growing business that weren’t in place before, finding a way to stay true to your core values as a business but also grow with your customer base and their requests, and of course, the eternal work/life balance struggle that plagues us all.
Please tell us about MEM Tea Imports.
MEM Tea is known for providing great loose leaf tea and superb customer service to cafes, restaurants, boutique hotels, and specialty shops throughout the greater Boston area; with much expansion into the Northeast occurring in the last two to three years.
We spend a lot of time with our products to ensure that the quality that we’ve presented since 1999 remains intact throughout wide company changes, market fluctuation, and shifting product availability.
We spend even more time with our customers so we can work directly with them to bring them the products that they want coupled with training and services that can support serving a delicate but quality product like loose leaf tea.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Getting Oreo blizzards from Dairy Queen with my grandfather while he let me splash in puddles of sea water and sand, regardless of how nice the dress I was wearing was.
