Today we’d like to introduce you to Media Talesh.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Media. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have my background in the hospitality industry. I studied Franchise Management with concentration in Hospitality and worked in the bar and restaurant business for about 8 years. I truly enjoyed my job and did plan it as my career. After some advancement, I realized the cap that exists in that industry and I decided to go back to school. I got my B.S. in Business Economics and then, continued to grad school for a Master’s in Business Administrations (MBA). After graduation, I was accepted into a management training program and pursued a career in marketing. I had to learn a lot about market, sales, communications and leadership. Thanks to my mentors, I was able to start my own business and aimed for entrepreneurship. Due to the network and relationships, I could build through my job after college, I was able to get contracts from large corporations such as Verizon, Walmart and I also got involved in the energy industry. Right now, the major focus of my business is energy, dealing with electricity suppliers, natural gas producers and also recently solar energy.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not been the smoothest journey. But looking back, I guess I’m laughing at it. I did not have any background in marking and sales. I did struggle a lot learning those skills. What’s more, I was not familiar with the economy and market in the US. But the one aspect I struggled the most with was understanding people ad being able to adjust and adapt my approach to them, regardless of customers, peers, employees, vendors or clients. Of course, sales was the best field for me to learn people and communications.
What’s more, understanding that this world is not made out of marshmallows and the fact that getting to the top requires punches and bruises was the toughest lesson I took along the way. Germans say what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. So no, the road hasn’t been smooth. And the struggles I have gone through are the lectures that made me to the master of my craft.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The core focus of my business is market development. We work with Fortune 500 clients as a third party and we are in charge of market launch and development for them in the Northeast. Our implementation is through sales and marketing. And we conduct our business at the bottom of the marketing chain with direct consumer interaction.
Sales are an important element of our business. But what’s more important is training the right people into the proper roles. And that’s what we are specialized in. We have three major divisions: sales, training and human resources. And one without the other cannot function.
I am the most proud of the names of our Fortune 500 clients and volumes that we run for them. Working with tier one household name corporations, is basically the pro league of our market.
My team and employees set me apart from others. We do consider us as a family. We are business partners. And that’s how we treat each other. I spend after-work hours, Sundays and holidays with them.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a hyper and thin kid. I was always outside. I enjoyed swimming a lot and actually did it competitively. Sports were always part of my childhood. I was always very outgoing, didn’t need that much of food or sleep and still had the energy. Music was always a huge element of my life. I did play the keyboard for a while but that was it.
Personality wise, I always stood out from the mass. It could be my unique fashion, the extrovert personality, at times actions, and in general the desire of being on stage.
My major interest is: I must experience it once! In cuisine, I will try and eat anything exotic that I haven’t had before. In traveling, I must visit any interesting destination. And whatever else counts as extraordinary experience, I will sign up for it, at least once.
