Meet Max Sipitco of Luxe Flooring

Today we’d like to introduce you to Max Sipitco.

Max, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I came to the US in 2013 from Moldova, a small Eastern European country located between Ukraine and Romania. The first place I lived was in West Yarmouth, MA. Here I had 2 jobs: at the hotel in the morning and at a fast food place in the evening. Tired of working 16-hour days, 6 days a week, I started thinking about getting one full-time job.

This is how I got my first flooring job in a small flooring company in West Yarmouth. First couple weeks and even months, I did not like the kind of work that I was doing. We would start early morning and work until 8PM-9PM. I worked like this for 1.5 years.

During that period of time, I was exposed to the ins and outs of working with all types of floors. At this time, I also met my girlfriend who lived and worked in Boston area. While we lived together on the South Shore, I was still driving to work on Cape Cod every day for another year.

I started working for another company that was closer to our home. One day, I ended up injuring myself at the job site with a table saw. After that incident, I said that I would never do hardwood floors again. Having my law diploma from my native country, I got a job in as a paralegal with a real estate attorney— it was here I found out that office work was not for me.

While working at the law office, I started installing floors on the weekends and at some point, I decided that I want to do it on my own. So, I got my own truck, tools, license, insurance and started my own company. We’ve been making progress since, and as far as planning for the future, I will be doing whatever is possible to keep our customers happy.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road for sure. The first struggle for me as an immigrant was the language. I studied English in school, but it was not good enough for working with customers. So I had to work on my English a lot, but I was lucky to have my girlfriend Jessika and friend Ken to help me.

Another struggle was getting our own customers— it’s not easy to win a job when you’re a newly founded company. There are a lot of well-known companies on the market, so that is a real struggle for any business I believe. The last struggle so far has been hiring the right people to do the job.

I met a lot of people who work just because they need to pay their bills and they don’t like the job that they are doing. I think everyone should be doing what he likes, at least a little bit; otherwise, they will never do a job in the best way possible.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Luxe Flooring story. Tell us more about the business.
My company is a small business, 3 employees including myself. We specialize in hardwood, laminate and luxury vinyl plank floors. We offer installation and refinishing services for the hardwoods and installation services for laminates and luxury vinyl planks.

We are known for a job well done that is on time and reasonably priced. We are also known for great customer service and honest business. As a company, I’m proud of all the jobs we’ve done so far, and have had no complaints.

I believe what sets me apart from the others is that I have a rule that I set for myself and I follow it no matter if it’s business or personal life: “do the job right from the first time.” The money that you make on a project will never cover an unhappy customer or a bad review. It’s too bad that many companies concentrate their attention on big money and rushed decisions.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t consider myself lucky, but I believe in luck. Talking about business, there were a lot of happy and not so happy moments before I started the company.

Leading a company is stressful, but if you want to do something, you have to fight for it and you have to put your soul into it. I was definitely lucky in meeting my girlfriend. I know for sure that she will become my wife someday.

Beautiful story man. I learned things I didn’t know about you. For example you don’t like paperwork
