Today we’d like to introduce you to Maureen Gitner.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After 35 years as a corporate professional, I reflected back on what I enjoyed most about my career, and there was a lot! Mainly because I constantly learned, listened, helped with solutions, built skills and knowledge and helped improve the quality of life of my workplace and my colleagues.
I gave considerable thought while I transitioned to activities that are more spiritually and healing based. I have practiced it on myself for years without actually knowing it until Reiki found me, and over the years I have received Reiki treatment from others and I got wonderful results each time.
Once Reiki found me, my health and mood improved. I lost 10 pounds. I treat myself with Reiki daily. I’ve treated family, friends, neighbors, pretty much anyone who would be still for a while (no easy thing for a lot of people) and practiced, volunteered and found that each time I performed Reiki, whatever was bothering the person improved, usually within a few days. And without exception, everyone commented they were very relaxed, lighter and felt the experience was warming and positive.
People’s pets were, predictably, silent regarding their results.
I earned my Level I and Level II and Reiki Master Teacher Certifications and started Reiki Sage so that I can share the sacred healing power of Reiki with you, thereby improving the quality of your life.
Has it been a smooth road?
I was initially concerned that finding a suitable studio would be my biggest challenge, and knew I was on the right track when a found a wonderful space to share with Nurture Massage and Wellness in Swampscott. We have all of the welcoming space, privacy and atmosphere to make our clients comfortable and feel pampered.
Business development (code for self-promotion) has been challenging for me and I continue to pursue ways to expand while concurrently educating people about energy healing and its’ benefits. Offering mindfulness meditation and devoting part of the session to Reiki has increased interest and business! I know how wonderful it feels to have a Reiki treatment, so it’s easy for me to talk about the benefits.
I welcome feedback from my clients and continue to seek more learning and knowledge of the healing arts.

There are many people who perform Reiki – more than half of all US hospitals offer Reiki to patients – however, as a consumer there are not many places to find an established business that offers Reiki treatments exclusively.
Many clients have come to me when they are in crisis….Personal, emotional, health or a combination of more than one issue. We all need help sometimes in our lives to feel balanced, settled, pampered and listened to.
Reiki relaxes the mind and body and removes negative energy from our chakras (spiritual energy centers) replacing it with new, light and vibrant energy which promotes greater healing and well-being. Burning sage before and after a treatment clears the client and the room of negative energy, is the original American incense as well as having antiseptic properties.
Having a full Reiki treatment is like pressing your “reset” button! You never forget to charge your phone – why not recharge yourself? It’s particularly helpful for anyone with a chronic disease, recovering from surgery or illness or experiencing sleep issues.
As part of giving back to the community, I offer all first responders and teachers a significant discount.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The Boston area is great … I grew up on the South Shore, lived in Boston for 20 years and after living in Arizona for 12 plus years, happy to be back in the area on the North Shore. Business and the economy here are good and the people are wonderful.
To provide healing services, you need a safe, clean, comfortable and relaxing environment.
Starting out in a business like this, I knew that it would take a while to develop a presence, get my name out there, become known. I would recommend volunteering, practice and improve your skill constantly, read, learn, be a part of the community and let people know what you do.
Promotion of local businesses is great, the more “shop local” days the better.
