Today we’d like to introduce you to Maura Cunningham.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Maura. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It was more of a spiral path than a straight line. As early as I can remember I had an interest in the realm of spirit and a deep sense of awe for the natural world. However, I didn’t grow up in a home where these matters were openly discussed, so I spent enormous amounts of time in libraries and metaphysical bookstores reading and learning about as many spiritual traditions and holistic practices as I could.
Throughout my late teens and twenties, I worked a million odd jobs from waiting tables to welding. I went to school for film and then later sculpture. Whether in school, working or both, I spent my spare time in meditation, energy healing, mediumship and intuitive development circles. I loved sitting in these circles not so much because I thought it was training for work I would one day do, but because it gave me so much peace and joy. It was the one place I felt truly at home, truly myself. After several years of taking classes and sitting in practice circles, I had a good number of people asking me where I saw clients and if they could schedule a session. It was then that I realized energy healing and intuitive reading was not just a hobby that I loved but perhaps part of what I was here to offer. I started working as a professional intuitive energy healer soon after those first requests.
I began seeing clients one day a week while I continued to work in video and built my practice as demand grew. To expand upon my energy healing, mediumship and channeling abilities, I also became a certified Reiki practitioner, Shamanic practitioner, Sound Healer, and Kundalini yoga instructor. For nearly ten years now I have been seeing people full time in addition to teaching morning and evening classes on meditation, energy healing and intuitive development and I absolutely love it!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been amazing – more a magic carpet ride than a road. Ever since I realized this was not a hobby but very much a part of my life’s path and purpose, I have felt so deeply supported and inspired every step of the way. It is profoundly humbling and awe-inspiring to get to do this work. It is a collaborative process. I learn so much about grace and wisdom and consciousness from the people I have the honor and privilege of meeting and working with every day.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Pravaha Energy Healing & Insight – what should we know?
My practice is called Pravaha Energy Healing & Insight. I offer one-one sessions that combine energy healing and intuitive reading and I teach small group classes on meditation, healing and intuitive development.
People come to a session for a wide variety of reasons. Some because of a recent life change or desire for change, some for things like anxiety or depression, some because of symptoms or habits that are not responding to traditional treatment, some looking for peace and spiritual support while preparing for or recovering from a medical procedure. For many it is a combination of reasons and whatever someone wishes to address is what we focus on. The goal is to assist people in balancing their vibrational energy to help restore a sense of harmony, clarity and wellbeing.
“Pravaha” is the Sanskrit word for current or flow. When we feel joyful and balanced, we are in the flow; we are living the fullness of our being. When some aspect of our being feels imbalanced or unwell our natural state of flow has become blocked. The work I do focuses on all levels, mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. During the session, I tune in intuitively to what a person brings up and I work with each person through intuitive conversation and energy work to help them to align with their goals.
As an intuitive energy channel, I am often able to sense events or circumstances that have happened or are happening in a person’s life. Sometimes the information comes in the form of a metaphor, an image, or a sensation. Sometimes, what I read in your energy is connected to a person in your life whose energy is part of your consciousness. In this case, the information may come through as a message from or about a loved one.
I can connect to this information as a neutral observer through your energetic body. The information I receive intuitively may be helpful in giving you a new perspective that may further assist with growth and healing. Many people have found that this aspect of the healing, though optional, compliments and expands the overall healing process by making unconscious or unacknowledged energetic themes clearer and allows the process of growth and healing to occur on a more conscious level.
Additionally, because of being in a peaceful, balanced and receptive place during the session – many people notice an increase in sensory perception as well as an overall heightened awareness of their own intuitive capacity. This magnified sense of perception and feeling of expansiveness may remain with you after the session and become a part of your general way of being.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I absolutely love doing this work because I believe one of the essential qualities of my job is to hold a space of unconditional love and compassion for each person I meet, ultimately so they can be more loving and compassionate toward themselves. I cannot imagine a better, more fulfilling way to spend my time.
