Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Wade.
Matthew, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up I was always a huge fan of music, from Bob Marley (positive vibrations) to Dave Matthews Band (Acoustic guitar driven) to Pearl Jam (Alternative Rock). My tastes were always diverse. There was always an appreciation for a well-written song that inspired, could make you move or feel something emotionally. I used to be great at discovering that cool band right before they broke and got huge.
While I loved to listen to music, when it came to playing it, there never seemed to be enough time. Believe it or not, I wasn’t very good at it either. I grew up playing sports. Any free time was mostly devoted to that.
Sometimes life has other plans for us, or our destiny finds us. I was traveling in Australia and had a sports injury which altered the course of my life. I was working out in the gym and herniated a couple of discs in my neck. The injury was the hardest challenge I had faced in my life and there was no roadmap to a cure.
For the next several years I tried every kind of treatment you could imagine and nothing seemed to work. Message therapy, acupuncture, physical therapy, sports therapy, homeopathy, special diets … you name it I tried it. Not only did nothing work but the injury seemed to be getting worse and worse which greatly affected the quality of my life.
I began to question the universe, why was this happening to me? What had I done to deserve such a fate? It was at that time when I had reached rock bottom, that I was introduced to spirituality. I began working on myself and started changing things that I didn’t like about myself. That was when I started seeing changes in how I was feeling physically. I finally found an alternative doctor that was able to help me and my health continued to improve slowly over time.
As a result of my experience, I realized that what I wanted to do with my life was to help others overcome their challenges. What was the way that I was meant to help and contribute back to the world? You guessed it. Music!
Over the last 10 years, I have released 5 Inspirational Acoustic Alternative Rock albums with another album on the way. How did I do all this? Trial by fire. I put my mind to it and nothing was going to stop me.
If you’re like me, you probably have a lot going on in life. There are times where you need to recharge the battery and find inspiration to your day amidst all the craziness going on in the world. I know I do, and I think that’s exactly why music is so powerful. It unites, inspires, uplifts and just makes us feel damn good! As an artist, it is my goal to do the all the above and I hope you will continue on this journey with me.
Has it been a smooth road?
Yes, I mentioned the sports injury challenge that came into my life in the previous question. One lesson I have learned in life is that from your greatest challenges can also come to your biggest blessings!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the My Silent Bravery story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a singer-songwriter and independent recording artist. I put out new inspirational alternative rock music often and tour to support it. I am currently supporting my latest project ‘Willing to Try’ and have an upcoming tour in the UK supporting Saving Abel.
Willing to Try (WTT) – Chapter 2 is the latest release from MSB and features the new single, ‘Everyday is the Weekend’. It follows Chapter 1, which was the first of 3 Eps set for release in 2018, with a total track list of 12 songs.
WTT Chapter 1 featured 3 Billboard Hit singles. Sonically, the new songs blend modern synths and keyboards along with acoustic guitars and atmospheric electrics. The album was co-written and produced by Jim McGorman (Gwen Stefani, Avril Lavigne, Poison). Jim had the following to say about working with Matt.
“Matt is a true artist in that he has definitive views on a wide range of subjects and isn’t afraid to put himself out there. Connecting people through music is very important to him, and I respect him for that. He is also very honest in his creativity, and I think that comes through in his vocal performances. “
“18” was the third single from WTT and was released on February 22, 2018. The song charted on 3 Billboard charts, peaking at #8 Digital Rock Song Sales, #28 Hot Rock Songs Chart, and #33 on Emerging Artist chart. It is the third straight single from MSB to chart on multiple Billboard charts. “Girl You Think You Know” was the previous single from MSB and was released on October 17, 2017. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot Singles Sales Chart, #13 on the Rock Digital Song Sales, and #36 on the Hot Rock Songs Sales Chart. It simultaneously reached #1 on the Soundscan Top 100 singles Chart remaining on the chart for 13 weeks.
The video for the song, which also exclusively premiered on Billboard, trended overseas up to #2 on Youtube’s most popular page. “Got it Going On” was the prior single from MSB and was released on July 11, 2017. The song topped the Billboard Hot Singles Sales Chart remaining at #1 for ten straight weeks. It simultaneously hit 5 Billboard charts, including #13 on the Hot Rock Songs as the “Hot Shot Debut”, and #8 Alternative Digital Song Sales, #9 Rock Digital Song Sales, and #49 Emerging Artists. It is the first single from the eagerly awaited album “Willing to Try” and was recently featured on XM Sirius Satellite radio station XM The Pulse on Train Tracks with Pat Monahan. The video for the song premiered via the Huffington Post and has amassed nearly 4 million views on YouTube, trending overseas in South America.
My Silent Bravery symbolizes persistence, perseverance and inner strength to overcome obstacles in the face of adversity. It is this type of determination that helped me overcome a sports injury in my youth which led me to pursue my passion for music. The injury opened the door to spirituality and a higher calling. I realized I wanted to become a better person and a more sharing individual. Through personal work and transformation, I learned the importance of “paying it forward” and now feel one of my missions in life is to help inspire others to do the same by delivering a positive message to the masses through the music of My Silent Bravery.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The music business is an extremely challenging industry and has undergone a tremendous amount of shifts, the biggest being how consumers listen to music now. The market really shifted to the digital world and streaming sites like Spotify and Apple Music have really begun to dominate the landscape. I seeing it continuing to head in that direction.
