Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Ortins.
Matthew, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Sure. I am 28 years old. After graduating from Manchester-Essex Regional High School I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, served as an infantry squad leader for five years and went on three deployments including one to Afghanistan.
After leaving the Marine Corps I knew that I wanted to own my own business but I was not in a good financial position to do so. With that goal in mind, I began working as a correctional officer at the Essex County Sheriff’s Department. By working a lot of overtime and saving a lot of money, I was able to buy my first house – a two family. Living in one unit and renting the other made my living expense very affordable. That coupled with more overtime allowed me to buy my second house (another two family) a year later. Having three rental units eliminated my living expense. I was then prepared financially to start my own business.
Having an interest in real estate because of my recent purchases, I happened to be looking at a video on line of a house for sale that was shot by drone. It provided an amazing perspective that allowed you to see the entire property and what it had to offer from every angle. It was at that moment that the idea for Luxe Life Productions was born.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it has not been a smooth ride. From crashing drones to learning to wear multiple hats in the business world has been a challenge. I have an accountant who handles the finances but the salesman, scheduler, advertiser and drone pilot are all me! I did recently hire a very talented drone pilot/photographer who has done some excellent work for me and lightened my personal work load a bit.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Luxe Life Productions is a real estate marketing company that utilizes high tech drones to create photography, videography and 3D virtual tours of properties usually for the purpose of selling them.
It took a lot of self-study to get the company going. I learned everything I could about drones and their operation. I sat through and passed the FAA test required to operate drones commercially and I purchased a drone and other photography equipment. My search for properties to purchase over the past two years came in handy. I spread the word about my new business with real estate agents that I had met and they let their colleagues know about me. I believe my work spoke for itself. I started receiving referrals for work. Agents were happy with how I was “showing” their properties. Virtual “open houses” were attracting hundreds and even thousands of “visits.” Real estate agents were selling more houses more quickly and for more money by using the services of Luxe Life Productions.
