Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Kielty.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Matthew. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started off as a waiter and moved on to other Front of the House positions as a doorman, barback, and bartender for the first ten years of my restaurant career before jumping into management. My experience working in these different positions early on eventually led to the opportunity to become the Managing Partner at Southside Tavern Restaurant in Braintree, Massachusetts for the last six years.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always challenges with new competitors popping up around our restaurant. It’s just a constant reminder to avoid complacency and to maintain our high standards of food consistency and service.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Southside Tavern story. Tell us more about the business.
SouthSide Tavern Restaurant in Braintree is an American style restaurant and neighborhood sports bar known for fresh food and an extensive menu. We offer daily specials of new food items, along with a catering menu for baby showers, graduation parties, cookouts, golf tournaments and private events.
During the week, we have entertainment such as Wicked Trivia Tuesdays, Country Wednesday, live music on Thursday, a DJ on Friday and Sunday Brunch.
What I’m most proud of is giving back to the local community by participating in town events and fundraisers. We take pride in having the opportunity to give back to the same people who have supported our restaurant through the years.
I think what sets us apart from other restaurants is we listen to our clientele while maintaining the integrity of the restaurant.
We are also very fortunate to have a great group of staff that take pride in their work and the service they deliver and because of their efforts, it has helped us grow year over year. In the past few years, we have gravitated towards a more digital marketing strategy with a focus on social media engagement, that has allowed both management and staff to communicate effectively and spread the word about our restaurant promotions, events, and fundraisers.
