Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Solar and Michael Brown.
Matt and Michael, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Michael: I originally started my career in journalism and content management and, eventually, grew to manage all content for Applause.com, then uTest, which is also where I first met Matt. Throughout my various roles there was a consistent gap in content management tools and how then prevent content marketers from scaling their efforts. Based on my own experience I knew there was a market opportunity and, out of that, nDash was born.
Matt: My background has, conversely, been more on the quantitatively side of digital marketing. What excited me most about joining the team was the ability to scale both the creation and ideation of content. Many digital marketers, like myself, have long been aware of the ROI of content marketing but lacked the ability to efficiently scaled their efforts to gain an SEO or conversion rate advantage. Had nDash existed when Mike and I were previously working together, we could have tapped into a much larger writer base to divide and conquer and, ultimately, gotten further, faster.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Michael: Starting a business from scratch is never 100% smooth sailing. I originally had the inspiration for building a community of writers when the demand for my own content services exceeded what I could supply through internal writers. Being an on-demand service, the recurrence of customer’s spend and demand has been a challenge for us to accurately predict.
Matt: Being a SaaS-based company, another challenge is always ensuring the entire team is ruthlessly prioritized on the user experience – whether that’s the product UI, support collateral, or customer support.
Please tell us about nDash.co .
Michael: Our company is unique in several ways;
First, nDash is the most transparent community platform in the B2B space, something we pride ourselves on. We want to enable brands and writers to establish meaningful, rewarding relationships with each other and not be restricted by anonymity or platform constraints.
Second, unlike most community platforms, we enable writers to contribute between formal engagements through researching and pitching companies their content ideas. Writers, experts, and influencers are able to search for brands within their industry that are open to receiving ideas, thereby adding value to both sides of the transaction.
Third, both writers and brands are able to set their own prices. Someone, for example, like Richard Branson, as one of the largest influencers within the travel business, is able to command a much higher price for his contributions than someone just getting started writing or who has been focused on another vertical.
Finally, for the companies who may want to offload all of their content creation, we offer fully managed services to ensure we can help any company scale to exceed their content requirements.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Michael: Adoption and feedback have been extremely positive from both the customers and writers. The only thing we can honestly say we wish we had done differently was launch sooner. Being relentlessly focused on creating a product and service that delights the user was a key decision that we would repeat exactly if given the opportunity.
