Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Kalinowski.
Matt, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began my business in the early 2000s. It was not until four years after I graduated college that I began to seriously pursue the commercial and editorial Photography as a job. Making art and using a creative outlet as a career was the real motivating factor. It has been a long road and at times challenging when the economic landscape was less than ideal, but in the end being my own boss in a job I love has been worth it.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Economic instability. Creative blocks. Keeping up with the digital landscape that is constantly evolving and very expensive.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Matt Kalinowski Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m an advertising and editorial Photographer specializing in location, lifestyle and portrait work.
I have been shooting and directing videos lately and hope to continue a broad range of multimedia services that require visual storytelling. I constantly strive to create fresh, original work that is markedly mine. I find that hard to define in words so hopefully when you see my work it makes sense.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m not sure luck has too much to do with it. The relationships you build and ability stay after it even when times are difficult to lead to success. Also, being organized and motivated when you have the downtime to make personal projects come to life is incredibly valuable. This is something I am still working on. It’s easy to stay on the ball when you are busy, it’s the slow times and how you stay busy for yourself that make difference.
