Meet Marz Cordero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marz Cordero.

Marz, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a Rapper/Recording artist from Brockton, MA. Thanks to the Influence of Nelly & Ludacris, I started writing my music at the early age of 11. The ability to create music runs in my dad’s side of the family as both he And my sister have made a good career for themselves as bachata and merengue singers. (Tito Zadi & Somaly Zapata) So now, at 24 Years old I’ve had over a decade of experience working on my craft and forming the sound you hear today.

Mainly Inspired by the works on Nelly, Method Man & Lil Wayne my music is a reflection of my life and my surroundings growing up, laced on irresistible beats with an authentic feel matched by few. I stepped away from music in 2014-2015 around the time my son was born, but in 2017 Another Brockton artist Prough approached me to hop on a mask off remix with him, we dropped the video and got over 20k views on my comeback, so that alone told me I could never stop again.

After that we formed our brand “Bandana Plug” & have had great success, including celebrity customers such as Joyner Lucas, Millyz, says & more! We also have a song together called “Bad” that has been played in over 60 countries as well as multiple major radio stations including jamn’ 94.5, & hot 106. & on September 14th we are performing for Hot 96.9 with Wyclef Jean at the wonderland ballroom.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all, just like any business, there’s ups and downs on the road to success. The thing that separates the true artist from the followers is the willpower to push through the struggles until the grass is greener. Speaking on some of my struggles along the way might come off like I’m tryna throw dirt on certain positions in the New England music scene, so all I’m going to tell any artist reading this is “KNOW YOUR WORTH.” Never let any of these people take advantage of you, know what you bring to the table and figure out how to express that professionally.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Marz Cordero story. Tell us more about your work.
As an artist, the thing that has always set me apart from others is my versatility and promotional skills. There’s never been a beat that I’ve come across that I couldn’t cook up something too. I’ve written everything from love songs to trap music. A lot of times I tend to write songs That I know will fit another style of an artist better, so I often give those hooks and/or songs away. (I aspire to be a songwriter fora major artist in the future as well).

I am a recording artist, but we also have a brand called “Bandana Plug” where we specialize in Unique bandana designs that generally represent a certain culture or area. Some of our most popular products have been the “508 Bandana” for Brockton & the “617 Bandana” for Boston (which can be seen worn by Millyz in his mob ties freestyle video, and Battle Rapper THE SAGA in a few of His URL battles) @BandanaPlug.

Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc.?
Honestly, I feel myself kicking and banging at the door of my industry as we speak. Just have to remain focused, humble and hungry and never let anything cloud my vision of reaching my goal.

My son helps keep me focused. I expect lyrical content to make a huge comeback in hip-hop within the next 5-10 years and from listening to my music you can see I’m looking to be a pioneer of that movement.
