Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Quigley.
Mark, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I established my company in 1986, after more than ten years working in the field of home building and remodeling. We specialize in renovation and remodeling, historic home restoration and custom home building. Additions, kitchens, baths, roofs, exterior and interior restoration are but a few examples of the services we provide, all with an eye on quality workmanship and attention to the customer’s needs.
In the thirty plus years since I created this company, we continue to pride ourselves on our reliability and dedication to each individual project which is why we have an excellent reputation.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m originally from New York, so resettling in Boston in the beginning it was a bit of a struggle as I didn’t have the connections or resources yet in place starting a business. But with quality work and striving to establish a business relationship that would continue over the decades it wasn’t but a couple years before my repeat customer base was established. After 31 years in the Boston area I am very proud of the fact that I not only have worked for a lot of the same clients on different projects, but have now started doing projects for some of their children as they buy their first homes and condos.
Please tell us about Mark W. Quigley General Contracting.
The majority of our work is renovation and remodeling. In an area with a housing stock as old as Boston’s that can be a real challenge but a challenge we enjoy.
What I am most proud of as a company is all our clients who over the years have continually refer us to other clients. I’ve always told my employees if you really like working for a particular client “do that little extra” because you’ll most probably enjoy working for their friends and other family members and it’s mostly turned out to be true. I think one thing that sets us apart is we start a fully trusting relationship with our clients some of who we’ve worked for going on 25 years and still do today.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Favorite memory, by far, being outside with siblings and friends. I come from a large family with seven siblings and we were always on the streets, whether we borrowed some mothers broom handle to play stickball, riding bikes or just hanging on the stoop talking and people watching it didn’t matter we’d find something to do with some friend or make a new one. Girl, boy, older or younger and religion or race never factored into it, just whose mother might of left her broom on the back steps and who had a Spaulding or tennis ball! We made go-carts, street hockey sticks, forts etc…and it was during that time that I realized I not only like the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction of building something with my hands but the strategies and calculations that go into making something that works.
We do a lot of work in greater Boston and I see more garages full of bikes, athletic equipment, yards with climbing structures etc…But where are the children?
