Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Jones.
Mark, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Started out on or around 1990 when website were really just starting out. I began with the development of several websites for local your sports organizations and eventually moved into small business website design.
Has it been a smooth road?
Anything in the technology space is always changing so you have to stay on top of trends, both from a design standpoint and the back end (web hosting. As technology changes, it can “break” websites so it is important to always monitor the sites and when there is downtime, to make the customer is aware of the issue and the expected time to fix. In all my years in the business, I think the longest downtime was about 14 hours. However, this downtime affected sites across the globe due to a DOS (Denial of Service) attack.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Mead Web Design story. Tell us more about the business.
As indicated by the name, we are a web design company. We specialize in website services for local small businesses and non-profit organizations. We understand that small businesses have a limited budget so our goal is to provide affordable and professional designs using the latest design standards.
We’re very proud of our designs and fully understand the importance of planning each stage. We want all visitors to your site to have a strong first impression of your business, and we fully understand that strong first impressions can be short-lived if the internal workings of your website fall short of the user’s needs and expectations.
At Mead, we work with small business owners, civic groups or any other organization that does not have the time, budget or knowledge to design and maintain a website through traditional means. Our sites offer cross-functionality among all devices and browsers.
We are very proud of our community involvement and essentially just giving back. We are heavily involved and with several organizations such as the Danvers Rail Trail, Danvers Family Festival, Danvers Historical Society and the Danvers Concert Series to name just a few. We feel it is our obligation to support these and other groups through sponsorship and service donations.
What makes us a little different than most is, we are a full-service web design company including domain registration, hosting, email hosting, web design and full maintenance services. So when you hire us, we take care of everything, from soup to nuts. Leave all the heavy lifting to us.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Triggered website animation and storytelling will continue to grow as will variable fonts (expressive typography) and artificial intelligence (AI).
Designers need to continue to create clean and simple websites for better mobile performance. Image-heavy websites are slow to load and frustrate mobile users. The number of mobile searches is going ever-upward, and mobile-first design for websites is considered a necessity, not just an option. This is why the flat design has started to become popular and will continue to be trendy into 2018. Flat design doesn’t mean that everything is reduced down to two dimensions – it’s all about minimalism and usability. It’s about getting rid of clutter and focusing on the important parts of your website.
The Google search algorithm is always changing and websites will need to ahead front of the curve if they want to stay relevant as far as Google is concerned.
