Today we’d like to introduce you to Marian Esanu.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Marian. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am born in a small city from Romania, Europe. I can honestly say that I’m living my American dream in Boston, Ma since 2013. I can say that I have been a fan in the entrepreneurial world from an early age but also a hard worker as I wanted to take responsibilities since I was 12. Working weekends during high school & summer times was something normal for me. Meanwhile, I was also selling clothes, electronics & ultimately cars. Fast forward to when I was 20 and I decided to taste the American life.
In the spring of 2010, I had my first contact with the United States and I knew that my life belongs here more than ever. I had 2 part-time jobs (as a cleaner & washing dishes in a restaurant, and a full-time job as a pool boy in a hotel). Everything was great but I had to leave after 4 months. 3 years later, I finally made it back and started to work on my dream, day in & day out. I’m blessed to have a great family, mom and dad ( still back home), a cool little brother ( he’s 18 now but he’s still my little brother) and an amazing wife that followed me & my dreams all the time.
In 2012, I landed my first job in Boston, in a moving company. Now, the biggest issue was that my wife did not get her visa for 1 year and I went back to her. In 2013, we finally made it back (this time both of us) and that was everything that we wanted. I always said: if I can only bring my wife here, I’ll take care of the rest.
We both worked hard having 2-3 jobs, so we can save enough money to work on our dream: opening a business. My first business was a moving company since that was the environment that I was coming from. Since I was studying online marketing this time, I was able to implement automation & sales funnels strategies that I could test on our own budget and we quickly scaled it from 0-2.5 M in sales, in literally 1.5 years. Also, very important variables here were the operations part of the business that was handled by my partner Sergiu, and he did an amazing job doing it and with the help of a great team (without a team you don’t have a business). I realized that the online strategies implemented there worked so well, and I decided to help my wife opening an Organizing & Cleaning company since that was her main job, since we came here, along with restaurants & makeup artist.
In the past 6 months, I’ve heavily entered into the online world, helping other companies implementing marketing automation & other social media strategies to help grow their businesses the same way I did with mine. Recently I got a nick name from a customer that called me ” The People’s Marketer”, mainly because of the fact that I knew how it is to run a brick and mortar company from 0 and the importance of connecting with people and building a team before anything. My main focus is now building my agency and helping others grow their own companies. I recently started a podcast called #Podcastory where I actually interview industry leaders, entrepreneurs and business owners that made an impact and want to share their stories helping others.
The bottom line is I’m so grateful being able to live in such an amazing country and I just hope that everyone can see the opportunities that we have here.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all, to be honest. My main problem was networking and the main reason for that was English is my 2nd language and I was always afraid to network with people because of my accent. The budget for advertising the business was very limited so we had to be profitable from the beginning. At the end of the day, everything that came along was considered a challenge, not an obstacle!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The People’s Marketer – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My current business specializes in Lead Generation & Business Automation for other local or national businesses. We don’t like to generalize things so we stay in our lane: Paid advertising, Funnel Building, Email & Process automation and implementation of all these.
To be honest I’m very proud of my recent nick name: The People’s Marketer and the actual reason behind it 🙂
What sets us and my company apart from a lot of other companies is the fact that I actually went thru the struggles of operating a small business, building a team and everything else. Now, if I step into a company, it’s easier for me to quickly understand if their website is the problem or the traffic methods or if it is just a matter of automation and lead nurturing.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Since I’m European, is nothing that I could say that I don’t like about Boston other than maybe some winters.
