Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Silva.
Marcus, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was extremely young (3-4 years old) my father, who was/is a musician used to bring me to the studio and I would help come up with lyrics to there songs. I was always madly in love with music. Obsessed with it. The first time I ever wrote a rap was in 2nd grade with my best friend at the time who happened to love in the apartment next to me (Anthony Cefalo). When I got to 4th and 5th grade I really dove into hip-hop and started rapping. I got to where I am today by never giving up no matter what happened and continuously putting good energy into the universe.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Never smooth. Things have always been tough. Since the day I was born my mother has struggled. Working 2-3 jobs and still barely getting by. Now she’s 63 and still working 70+ hours a week. That in itself makes this journey hard because I just want to make things easier for her. Also, Weymouth obviously isn’t known for rap so that made things pretty hard because people didn’t want to take it seriously.
I’ve lost so many “incredible” jobs making great money for music. And we don’t come from money so that can be an issue. I moved to LA, lost 20 something pounds, didn’t always have a bed to sleep in. Things were tough. Mentally and physically. I had a lot of family issues going on at home but that just motivated me, even more, to keep pushing. I slept on the street for music. It’s never been easy.
Marc Vincent – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am an artist that happens to make rap music. I tell my story in my music. I want to show people that anything is possible as long as you work at it every day and never give up no matter what. I would have to say I’m most proud of being able to motivate people and show them you can do anything you put your mind too.
I created a brand called “Things Are Looking Up” which is also the name of My upcoming album which is dropping September 1st on all platforms. But the brand is a way of life.
No matter how bad things get you must tell yourself they will get better. If you put that into the universe it will happen. So I’m also proud of being able to give people a voice and a sense of hope. My work ethic, drive and motivation sets me apart.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I would have to say I’m most proud of having my song “UP” played on jamn 94.5. I’ve performed at festivals with MGK, Gucci Mane, done shows with Lil Uzi Vert and many others but that hit home. I grew up listening to that station hoping I would one day hear myself come out of those speakers and it happened.
