Meet Madison Warchol of Botanik Studio in Northern Massachusetts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Warchol.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Whether it was a part of my school work, what my job was centered around, what I did in my free time or the way I dressed , Art has been a huge part of my life as far back as I can remember. It wasn’t until last year that I decided to make the jump into bringing my work to the public and participating in markets. It has been a wild year of learning and growing but I couldn’t be more exited for what the future holds at Botanik!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been an exciting and rewarding road, but definitely not always smooth. My first season of markets was filled with lots of trial and error, fighting bad weather, display flaws and figuring out my customer base. I have been very fortunate in this process to have met so many kind and knowledgeable artists who have given me feedback and helpful tips along the way. I always try to pay this forward when someone tells me they are new to the scene as I know how helpful it was in my own process. My biggest struggle currently is finding balance. Between working full time and having about 1000 ideas pop into my head each day, it can seem hard to find any time for a social life or sleep. All I can say is if you are passionate about something you just make it work!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Botanik Studio story. Tell us more about the business.
Botanik Studio is a curation of my original artwork including a wide variety of illustration prints and handmade goods. I grew up in New Hampshire with a love for the outdoors so you’ll find that I pull a lot of my inspiration from nature. I was once told that my art was “too happy” and that people would not be drawn to my message, but happiness and positivity is exactly what I try to portray in my work. Every home tells a story and what you fill it with sets the mood for you and your guests. It is my hope that every print and every mountain shelf lights up the rooms that they hang in and that every person buying a zip pouch goes home excited to fill it with their Knick knacks and mini treasures. I think what sets me apart from most other creators is that I don’t have one particular aesthetic, color story, etc. My medium ebs and flows constantly so with that my product is always evolving.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
There is no real simple answer to this, as they both have a place in my life as well as my business.

I have a hard time letting “good luck” take any credit since I work so hard for what I do but in all honesty, I have been so lucky to hold such an amazing group of people in my life who are constantly helping me. My mom, my boyfriend, my friends and my community all have played a big part in getting me to where I am in my business and continue to bring meaning to that word “Lucky”. The bad luck I have come across has been things that are out of my control and I am constantly learning lessons from them. No matter how much bad there may be, there is always far more GOOD! It all depends on how you look at things 🙂
