Today we’d like to introduce you to Ludgy Michel.
Ludgy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I come from a very business oriented family. I grew up watching my mother build her business from the ground up and teach herself everything she needed to know about becoming a small business owner. I’ve learned a lot of my business sense from my family. I started having an interest in events and planning when my son was born. Planning his birthday parties was so exciting that I could be lost in it for days at a time. Slowly, I started planning parties for other people and opened an event planning business. One day we needed a photo booth for an event and could not find one to meet our needs, so we built it! Since then, I fell in love with the entire process and decided that it was all I wanted to focus my business around. I have to say, I’ve never regretted that decision.
Has it been a smooth road?
We’re New Englanders, we don’t know what smooth roads look like. 🙂
But in all seriousness, it hasn’t been easy. Just like any start up, there are a lot of initial expenses that you have to cover. I’ve funded my business myself and haven’t had to take out any loans or lines of credit. While this means I may move a little slower than I would like with expanding and getting newer equipment, it allows me to stay out of debt and see a profit sooner than if I borrowed. Another challenge that I’ve found is that the more you grow and invest in your business, the more you learn, and when you know better… you do better. How is that a challenge? When you first start out, you may not know the difference in quality of a certain product, so you opt for the cheaper one because you assume they both get the job done, but as you learn and grow and start to invest in your brand, you won’t settle for just anything. You will spend more because you would have done your research and know better and want to offer the best version of your brand that you can.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love Boston, We are Boston. For Dislikes, we’ll have to go with parking, or the lack of. We usually have a trailer attached to bring our equipment around, which means finding a double parking space. IMPOSSIBLE. But, I have become good friends with a lot of valet attendants.
