Meet Louis DeGeorge of DeGeorge Home Improvements

Today we’d like to introduce you to Louis DeGeorge.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Louis. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was in the corporate world all my life. Dating back to Wang Laboratories and Data General. Most recent corporate positions were with New England Cable News and the Rendon Group where I held executive marketing positions. My dad was diagnosed with ALS so I decided to take some time away from work and help take care of him for a year and a half. In dealing with my dad’s death I decided to except an opportunity to serve on the board of directors of the Massachusetts ALS Association of which I served for 5 years. I also realized how fragile life was and decided to re-invent myself in the General Contracting Remodeling Industry. I had worked with my uncle who had a construction business when I was a kid and have always enjoyed building things. I decided to leave the long conference calls, endless meetings, long commutes and travel of the business world for a tool belt and a saw. For the last five years I have never felt I was at work. I am truly just enjoying myself everyday, and it shows with the success of DeGeorge Home Improvements, in the quality of work and satisfaction of customers.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest struggles are (1) finding good and legal help (2) the red tape and outrageous amount of government regulations (3) and paying close to 45% is government taxes never mind the ridiculous cost of liability insurance, workers compensation, and commercial vehicle insurance. The government makes it very difficult for small business to help with the unemployment in the country, and if we can’t hire they can’t tax new workers!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with DeGeorge Home Improvements – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We focus strictly in remodeling Kitchen, bathrooms, basements, siding, windows, and decks in the Northshore. About 90% of our business comes from six towns (Middleton, Boxford, Topsfield, Georgetown, Newbury, and Ipswich.) We stay local customers know they will see us in the grocery store or at a sporting event in town. When they hire people outside their community they are hiring someone who doesn’t have to worry about bumping into them at church. This makes a difference. We are proud of the fact that 99% of business comes from customer satisfaction and referrals. This really defines our reputation for a contractor with quality work and excellence in communicating with their customers.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are not looking interested in growing any bigger we appreciate the balanced work and family life have, and will just be appreciated of the road that we are on.
