Today we’d like to introduce you to Lo McShay.
With a lifelong passion for entertaining, Lo launched LoLo Event Design nearly 10 years ago. What began around a dining room table has grown into a highly sought-after boutique event design and coordination firm named “2015 Best of Boston” by The Improper Bostonian. LoLo Event Design specializes is conceptualizing and transforming spaces through large-scale design installations and customized details. Lo loves unearthing each client’s unique design aesthetic to create highly personalized, inviting events. Her work has been featured in multiple print and online publications including; Biz Bash, Carats & Cake, Design New England, Grace Ormonde Wedding Style New England, Southern New England Weddings, Style Me Pretty, The Boston Globe and The Improper Bostonian.
In 2018, Lo is bringing her tried and true process to an online course, The #Girlbossbride Guide. This new month-by-month approach to planning is geared towards the woman who wants to be the CEO of her own wedding. Lo will walk couples through how to not only plan, but style a wedding celebration as unique as their love story. Lo believe planning your wedding should be as much fun as hitting the dance floor and hopes this new service helps couples avoid wedding overwhelm.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think every small business faces their challenges along the way. For me the biggest challenge has been carving out sufficient time for strategic marketing. I started my career in advertising and have always be interested in how you build a brand and tell their unique story. That can be a challenge on a small business budget and with limited time.
Recently, I’ve been exploring video marketing which I think is a great tool to connect with our current and prospective couples. We’ll be launching a YouTube channel later this month I’m really excited about.
I’ll be interviewing some of the most talented creatives in the Boston wedding industry. I hope to help couples better understand how to foster a strong working relationship with their wedding dream team and get the best quality and customer service when it comes to their celebration.
We’ll be taste tasting signature cocktails during the interviews so it’s bound to be a great time.
Please tell us about LoLo Event Design and The #Girlbossbride Guide.
LoLo Event Design specializes in creating highly personalized events. We spend a great deal of time getting to know our clients and understanding their true design aesthetic.
We only take on 10 weddings per year so we’re able to offer a concierge level of custom service. We are true designers, meaning we conceptualize the space from every level. We drive the visual aesthetic of the celebration and attend every floral, rental and lighting/production consultation with our clients. We are there with them every step of the way. We don’t shy away from getting our hands dirty to create unique event details weather that be a custom table number of light installation we craft in our warehouse.
I believe every couple deserves a wedding celebration as unique as their love story which is what drove me to create The #Girlbossbride Guide. As I visit Facebook wedding forums my heartbreaks for the couples who sound overwhelmed by the planning process. There is a lot that goes into a wedding and I always say you shouldn’t be good at something you’ve never done before.
I want to empower those couples who have decided not to engage a planner be the CEO of their wedding. The #Girlbossbride Guide is a month-by-month course designed to guide couples through the process we use every day. I hope to inspire couples to not only plan, but style their celebration in a way that feels true to them.
After nearly 10 years in business, I am most proud of the relationships I’ve built. We are still in touch with many of our couples and are proud to call them friends.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have embraced social media more deeply from the beginning. As my business has evolved, I’ve grown to see social media as more of a conversation and community building tool than I did early on.
