Meet Lloyd Wilson of Sail Independence in North Shore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lloyd Wilson.

Lloyd, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up in Marblehead on the water I learned and gained respect for the ocean at an early age. After owning Independence for several years people would always ask if she was for hire. Eventually I turned my passion into a career by gaining my captains license and setting the boat up for charter.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The ocean is rarely smooth and even when it is it can turn very quickly. Being able to cut the dock lines so to speak was a challenge. I did so by making the move into a new career and sailing the boat down to the Virgin Islands for a winter. Now back in New England for the summers I run a charter business.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sail Independence – what should we know?
Independence is a privately owned sailing yacht for hire. We do mostly day sails in and around the Boston area. We also can do long distance cruises and over nights. It’s a perfect platform for the individual group, family, or company outing that wants an exclusive day on the water without the masses. I most proud of getting people on the water that don’t get this chance and putting smiles on their faces. It’s rewarding doing something you love and showing it to others.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I admire all who have chased their dreams and anyone that has a passion for the ocean. It’s really the people I take out that drives the business and my crew members that help make it possible.
