Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa and Laurel St. Denis.
Lisa and Laurel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We began as two young females who worked for countless other corporate gyms and YMCA’s and were inspired to start a place where we could be a fun and inspirational community of young professionals in the Providence and Boston area. We wanted to build a boutique fitness studio where everyone was comfortable to come and workout no matter your age or ability. We also wanted to create a space where we could do good work for the communities around us and be able to give back without having to go through a lot of red tape and corporate approvals. We have now been in business for 6 years and have members ranging from Newton, MA all the way to Westerly, RI (on the Connecticut border). We absolutely enjoy being a safe and comfortable space to come and workout, get out your every day stress, make new friends, give back to the community and most importantly have fun!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a pretty smooth road for us, though we were warned at first by our families not to start a fitness facility during a recession! We knew we had an idea that would work and could put ourselves out there a plant the seed to watch PE Fitness grow. It truly has been scary and fantastic journey, but it has proved to be a rewarding one. The amount of lives we’ve touched and been able to change has only inspired us to keep on pushing ourselves to grow further.
PE Fitness Studio – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We specialize in personal training, small group training and TRX (a suspension strap developed by the Navy Seals) and Bootcamp classes. Our first year open we won “Best Bootcamp Class” in Rhode Island from Rhode Island Monthly. We are known for being a friendly, comfortable, but tough boutique fitness studio on the border of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. We are proud of the community that we have built, our classes NEVER being boring and our amazingly friendly and happy environment to workout in! What sets us apart is the owners, Lisa and Laurel share their love and passion with everyone who walks through the door. It isn’t a faceless gym experience, but every time you walk through the door you are a person who is cared about.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Reaching our 5 Anniversary and holding a class that was so overfilled with members old and new! Holding a member appreciate party/ hurricane fundraiser where we gave back to our amazing clients and they gave over $1,000, and countless care packages for us to send to the amazing people in the United States Virgin Islands. We are truly blessed.
