Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Brisbine.
Lindsey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up I was always creative, in fact my parents would sometimes joke saying that I could draw before I could walk. My hunger for art grew with age, in elementary school I took classes on drawing animation, in Junior High School I won a few minor awards for a few of my drawings, and by the time I was in High School I was taking painting classes on the weekends at the Cleveland Institute of Art. I always wanted to learn more and expand my craft, and so, when I graduated from High School I decided to pursue a degree in Fine Arts from Kent State University. It was there I found that my creative passion was not in drawing or painting, but instead with photography. After graduating with a BFA from Kent State I moved to the East Coast and my husband and I started to think about what it was that we both wanted to do with the rest of our lives in terms of careers. Adam (my husband and the other half of Little Fang) is also a creative in his own right, with a background in film and video production. We decided that we wanted to start our own business, something creative, something fun, and something we could do together, and so Little Fang Photo came to be. We began small, but our business quickly flourished and before we knew it we were booked solid with weddings every year. Not only were we photographing weddings, but we soon began shooting events and editorial work in both New York City and San Francisco.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting your own business is never a smooth road, it is filled with ups and downs, fallen trees, potholes, and any number of challenges. There is no road map to guide you, only trial and error, and you need a whole lot of ambition in your tank if you want to make it to the end. These struggles no matter how big or small can and are often overcome by persistence, flexibility, and tremendous amount effort.
Little Fang Photo – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Little Fang Photo is a diverse company, we photograph not only weddings here in New England but we also specialize in events and editorial work that has taken us all the way from NYC to San Francisco. Our work has graced the cover of San Francisco Magazine and we have also been featured in everything from Vogue to Vanity Fair. What makes Little Fang unique is our versatility. We aren’t a one trick pony, we have a lot of aces up our sleeves. We embrace new challenges, and our goal is to constantly broaden our artistic horizons.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
That is a tough one! We have been blessed here at Little Fang with so many proud moments. However, if I had to pick just one I think it would be photographing the Tony Awards after party at the Carlyle Hotel for the amazing folks over at O&M.
