Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Riera and Bob Damiano.
Linda and Bob started sailing when they moved to Boston 11 years ago and fell in love with the sport immediately. We took many classes and sailed extensively on a variety of different types of sailboats for several years before buying their own sailboat. After a couple more years on their own boat, they desired to share their love of sailing by starting All Hands Sailing Charters and providing private, customized sails around Boston Harbor, the Boston Harbor Islands, and beyond.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
All Hands Sailing Charters is, understandably, a seasonal business and the Boston climate tends to provide a short sailing season for comfortable conditions. In addition, we both have very busy day jobs. These two factors limit how many charters we can book thus it is impossible for this to be our primary mode of income. Another challenge has been that this is the first company we have started thus learning the logistical and legal aspects has been both challenging and interesting.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the All Hands Sailing Charters story. Tell us more about the business.
All Hands Sailing Charters is unique in the northeast in that we host guests on our luxury 40′ Tartan, Argon. All charters are completely private in that we schedule only one group at a time, up to six people. In addition, our charters are participatory in that we encourage guests to become part of the crew and engage in the mechanics of sailing by hoisting the main, trimming the jib, or manning the helm. Or guests can sit back and let the Captains do all of the work. We also accommodate custom requests.
In addition, we have taken Argon on an extended cruise having sailed to Bermuda and throughout the Caribbean over the past 10 months. We are recently back in the northeast and booking charters in Boston through September.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We have been very fortunate to have had absolutely spectacular clients on all of our excursions. Our clients are always engaged, enthusiastic and a pleasure to host.
