Today we’d like to introduce you to Ligia Centeno.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always loved makeup as a teenager, but only did make up for fun on myself and friends. I decided to get formal training in makeup artistry ten years ago, and started working in the bridal makeup industry thereafter.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No it has not been easy! I’ve had some ups and downs like other businesses. Targeting my clientele, deciding where to invest in advertisement, and deciding what is the best way to reach out potential clients. Also, finding the balance between the paperwork, scheduling, doing the actual work, and managing my personal life is always a challenge.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Makeovers by Ligia – what should we know?
It’s on site makeup artistry small business. Currently I work alone. I provide makeup services primarily for bridal events, and occasionally, I provide services for photoshoots, and collaboration projects. I have worked with brides professionally for ten years, and specialize in bringing out the natural beauty in women. I often work with women who like a minimal, soft, and flawless look, and in the last few years, I have been very sought after for providing makeup services to Asian and a women of color.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have been very lucky to have other makeup artists as inspirations, some who have passed away, such as Kevin Aucoin, and some current, such as DeShawn Hatcher, New York makeup artist. She has been one of my biggest inspirations, and supporter.
