Today we’d like to introduce you to Liesl Dexheimer.
Liesl, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Classic Engraving has changed hands over the years. The business originated in New Bedford and then moved to Mattapoisett where my mom’s aunt owned and operated it for many years. I was attending UMASS Dartmouth at the time and looking for a part time job when I was given the opportunity to help my mom’s aunt fulfill orders. About a year later my mom took over the Classic Engraving and we worked together running the business. I took over the business in 2013 after my mom developed Alzheimer’s. I graduated from UMASS Dartmouth with a BFA in Graphic Design and have been in the awards and engraving industry for over 15 years.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Within the last few years both of my parents became ill and have entered a nursing home. I had to take care of their issues and finances while still juggling the business.
Classic Engraving – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I engrave a wide variety of items including but not limited to plaques, acrylic and glass awards, signs, name tags, desk plates, promotional products, corporate gifts, glassware and more.
Other services include photo engraving on wood, metal and acrylic as well as laser cutting on plastic and wood.
I’m expanding into custom donor and memorial walls. I recently completed a 4 foot x 7 foot custom perpetual plaque to honor and memorialize residents of a nursing home. I also finished a custom donor wall made of out Corian which was laser engraved and color-filled.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Although you need money to live nothing makes me happier when a customer picks up their product and says how happy they are with the end result. It means so much to me!
