Meet Lidong Yu of Feng Shui Scents in Cambridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lidong Yu.

Lidong, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a Chinese Feng Shui consultant, I found out that the current popular Western Feng Shui is not real Chinese Feng Shui, it has an absurd theory and few Western Feng Shui consultants understand basic Feng Shui principles, so I thought I should offer people authentic Chinese Feng Shui and teach people Chinese Feng Shui culture. I was born in Beijing, China and grew up near the Forbidden City, which is the largest example of a Feng Shui oriented structure in the world. Feng Shui was a major component of Classical Chinese Architecture, I started to learn basic Feng Shui principles by visiting the Forbidden City, Ming Tombs, various temples, and courtyard houses during my teenage years.

I started my Feng Shui consulting business many years ago, and I had written monthly Feng Shui articles for www.examiner.com for a few years, I have clients in China and the U.S. My Chinese Feng Shui book “Criticism of Western Feng Shui and introduction of Chinese Feng Shui culture” will be published late this year or early 2018.

In 2017, I began creating unique Feng Shui candles. Each candle is designed in accordance with particular Feng Shui principles. The candle, as the Feng Shui adjusting medium, can help improve the energies of our environments. I sell my candles through local gift stores, bookstores, Amazon and my website – www.fengshuiscents.com. Each candle is associated with a Feng Shui information card.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It is not, since Chinese Feng Shui is a very complex and abstruse theory, its knowledge structure consists of classical Chinese philosophy, classical Chinese medicine, classical Chinese architecture, Feng Shui geography, astrology, traditional Chinese prediction and etc. I have been trying to find a simple and efficient way to teach people Chinese Feng Shui but not successful so far.

Why is Western Feng Shui so popular? Because it doesn’t have any profound theory but only a few principles, even if these principles are absurd and against basic Chinese Feng Shui principles, but nobody cares, they just simply flaunt their Feng Shui as Western-style Feng Shui, it should be different from Chinese Feng Shui. However, I have to acknowledge that Western Feng Shui is much easier to learn. I can make people understand Western Feng Shui in two hours but it takes at least one year for students to learn one Chinese Feng Shui school. I want to continue to find a better and efficient way to teach people Chinese Feng Shui. I just start to write a very simple Feng Shui guide that doesn’t involve any complex theory, this series of lectures will be published at my website. I hope this guide can help people understand authentic Chinese Feng Shui.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I offer people Chinese Feng Shui services, not only I can teach people authentic Chinese Feng Shui but also I can teach people related Chinese Feng Shui culture such as classical Chinese architecture. For example, there is an ancient Chinese house called “Yin Yu Tang” that exhibits at Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA, Even though the museum did a great job to introduce this exquisite Chinese house to American people, but their introduction about this house lacks the best part – Chinese Feng Shui architectural aesthetics. I published an article in the local newspaper a couple of years ago to briefly introduce Feng Shui aesthetics of this Chinese house. One of my Feng Shui services is to guide people to visit this Chinese house and learn Chinese Feng Shui knowledge on site. Speaking of Chinese Feng Shui architectural aesthetics, nobody can have better knowledge than me.

Now I started to make unique Feng Shui candles. I invented the idea that designing candle with Feng Shui concepts and selling candles associated with Feng Shui information cards. I hope my Feng Shui candles can open a new door for people to gain authentic Chinese Feng Shui knowledge.

Additionally, I can teach people many other Chinese cultural elements such as Peking Opera and the Chinese chess – Wei Qi (GO).
