Meet Lera Navickas of FireCycle Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lera Navickas.

Lera, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up, I was always extremely athletic and loved expressing myself through movement. It’s been a lifelong goal for me to share my love of fitness with others.

Every step I’ve taken throughout my career has been with this goal in mind. To build a spin studio that leaves a lasting impression and impact on everyone who walks through the door is the dream realized.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not been easy. Initially, it was not permissible to operate a health and fitness business on Moody Street in Waltham. For close to a year, we worked with the city to change the zoning.

Another obstacle was to build a beautiful studio in an intimate space. Making sure everything is ADA compliant in a small space was a lot harder than I anticipated.

Hiring a team was another challenge. It took many months to find my first three instructors. It was important to find employees who were passionate and who cared about providing an excellent experience for our riders.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
FireCycle Studio is an indoor cycling studio. We specialize in rhythmic cycling. We offer our riders two types of rides. One includes more choreography and upper body movement (arm workout included). The other class uses our bike monitors to track our cadence and resistance. The focus is more on riding, with less choreography. Both are challenging, intense, and effective workouts.

Our studio is known for being clean, intimate, friendly, and FUN! I am extremely proud that we have created a non-intimidating studio where everyone feels welcome.

FireCycle is set apart from other spin studios in so many ways. Firstly, although we recommend you use our shoes to clip into the bike, we do not require that you do so.

“Clipping in” can be intimidating for some people especially if they are first-time riders. Rather than forcing our riders to clip in immediately, we invite them to get comfortable wearing their sneakers first.

We found that over time they graduate to preferring the clip in experience. Another differentiator is that we are a small boutique studio. We have 20-30 bikes so you do not get lost in the shuffle. Our instructors will know you by name, and you will feel part of our community, rather than just another rider.

What were you like growing up?
I was a determined athlete. I was the kid that got more fulfillment out of landing a new backflip at the gym, than going to a school dance or attending social events. Every second I had was focused on making myself a better athlete. I was goal oriented and focused.

Personality wise, I think most people would say that I was funny. I loved a good prank.
