Meet Leaf Shea of Leaf Boutique in Brookline

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leaf Shea.

Leaf, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My mother owned a boutique, specializing in unique jewelry, on Martha’s Vineyard for close to four decades. We loved the work and decided to bring our passion to Brookline. Leaf Boutique, formerly known as Vintage, opened its doors 23 years ago in Coolidge Corner. The clothing has always been new and over the last few years, has become more of our focus. Yet I really love finding jewelry to share with our customers. I’m fortunate to have connections all over the world, including Turkey, Great Britain, France, and India, so I can carry one of the kind pieces that are really special. Leaf Boutique has evolved over the years but the service remains personable and community focused. That has always been the priority.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being a brick and mortar store has its own challenges. We rebranded a few years ago to give people a clearer picture of what we offer. We also launched our website in the first quarter of 2017 to have a wider reach, beyond Brookline and Massachusetts. It’s been a very exciting addition to our business.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Leaf Boutique – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We think fashion and creating your style should be a fun experience. We’re proud to offer fabulous yet affordable items. A lot of my work goes on behind the scenes to give the store a curated feel. We have something for everyone and all age ranges.

We launched our website this year which has been really exciting. But my staff excels at the experience of being in the store. I want people to come in to touch the clothing and try on the jewelry. We strive for a rich, tactile experience that you cannot get online. We also enjoy getting to know our customers, My staff will ask about the events people are shopping for and then want to see pictures after. And if people are open, we’ll suggest pieces that many of our customers wouldn’t pick for themselves but end up loving. That’s a great feeling.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are always evolving, like the fashion industry. This Fall, we re-instated our monthly Sip ‘n Shops, on the first Thursday of every month; so we’ll continue to host those from 6-8PM as a way to say thank you to a community that continues to support us.
