It’s a unique story in that I ironically had no experience in the salon world yet I purchased the rights to three salon suite franchises, Salons by JC, in the greater Boston area. Our first is located in Stoneham (Redstone Shopping Center), the second in Burlington/Lexington (Middlesex Commons Shopping Plaza) and the third is yet to be developed. We are a salon suite facility offering fully furnished rentable suites to beauty professionals in the area. It now gives me such a thrill to promote others in this business.
For 15 years I worked in the advertising industry in both large agency environment and publishing companies such as Yahoo! and AOL. I hold a BA from Trinity College and most recently received an MBA from Babson College Entrepreneurial Business School focusing on Global Management. The spirit of entrepreneurship became infectious! I then bought into Salons by JC because I recognized that the salon suite model helps to promote other women entrepreneurs build their own business in an industry that proves difficult to do so otherwise.
I saw this as a way to not only pioneer the Boston market but to help give a forum to talented women allowing them to more easily become their own boss! It’s empowering to see their success and I love knowing that our model has helped them to realize their dream.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Pioneering a market always has its challenges. Concept awareness was low when we opened and through marketing and word of mouth we aim to let beauty professionals all over the state know what opportunities a salon suite model could hold for them!

What were you like growing up?
Ironically, I was and still am a tom-boy yet I found myself immersed in the beauty industry! But what I love about the concept is something that I always loved even as a child; helping others succeed! While I don’t have the specific beauty talent, I love being a champion for their businesses.
I grew up in a small suburban town in CT with one older brother and loved everything outdoors. From ski racing to crew and fishing it was the spirit of adventure that got me excited.
Personality wise, I was always attracted to friends that took life with a sense of humor. Nothing connects me more to a person than their surprising dry wit.
My husband and I are both family people. My brother is my best friend and I most recently discovered how rewarding becoming a parent can be with the birth of my daughter in October. If lack of sleep is the worst of it, we have a long fun road ahead of us!
