Meet Laren Taylor England

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laren Taylor England.

Laren Taylor, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a singer from Boston and I’m a Senior in high school at Boston Arts Academy. I’ve walked the carpet for “Rock Your Hair” and the American Music Awards. I was the 2018 winner for the PBS Celebration of Music with Ethan Bortick at the Wilbur Theater in Boston. I’ve opened for Comedian Steve Sweeney at the River Music Club in Scituate, sang the National Anthem at the Celtics, Red Sox, Brockton Rox, Rocky Marciano Boxing Events, Mohegan Sun and many other venues including the Massachusetts Fire Academy Headquarters for their graduation.

This summer, I did the Northeast tour with Boys of Summer with one of Frankie Jonas Artist. I’m currently working with a manager in LA on projects including A&E and Brat TV. I was dressed for the AMAs by Kate Spade NY on Newbury Street.

I’m the Brand Ambassador for the Word Changes, I started a non-profit called Boston’s Got Voices and I recently traveled to Puerto Rico with some classmates to help out after the devastation of the hurricane. We helped rebuild some houses with some students from a school in Puerto Rico similar to BAA. I was sponsored on the trip by Harry Connick Jr. I had reached out to him after learning that we needed to raise money to go on this trip and he alone paid my way. That was amazing because I just sent him an email. Sometimes, if you ask, people listen and respond.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth path, I’ve hit a few bumps along the way but I’ve been very blessed with some opportunities I’ve received. I’ve worked with some great producers Coran Henley, Jason Meeker from Universal Music Group and have had great mentors in the singing world like Vincent King, Louie Bello and Chris Trapper of the Push Stars.

But the singing world can be super competitive and although some people want you to be successful others want you to fail.

I’ve witnessed it first hand with both sides and it’s been a struggle.

My mom and a few others have been very supportive but some have bashed us for pursuing this and even called us an embarrassment for trying to make it.

I can tell you that the road I’m on has given me some great opportunities, a few bumps, and some smooth paths and I have no regrets. I’ve learned a lot, met some great people, some people that are just after your money and some people that just wanna help you. In the end, this will make a great college essay!!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a singer and actress. I’ve been in Law& Order, Billions, Madame Secretary, Going in Style, Following Phil, Love for India, Brat TV, and I played the body double for Maddie Ziegler in the Book of Henry.

My song “Into The Bright Lights” was #1 in the Netherlands and played on Boston Radio Stations. My song “Here WE Are” was produced by Bobby J and Tito in LA and my video was created at Mel’s diner in Sherman Oaks with some famous Instagramers, and YouTubers Dylan Conrique, Mikey Tua and Maddie Lewis.

I’m most proud of “Boston’s Got Voices.” This was a non-profit I started with five other kids that gave an avenue for kids to have a voice and an opportunity to sing in the ballroom at the Fairmont Copley Plaza.

Our mission was to help kids recognize their personal value and power to influence others and make them feel confident against bullying and other social oppression.

What sets me apart from others is that I have a dream and I go for it. Taking the risks others won’t necessarily take. I’m making my own opportunities, not waiting for them to come to me.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is going after something you want and just trying it. It doesn’t have to be the right outcome but just knowing that I went after it, that’s successful.

My criteria would be setting a goal. A big one for me was singing the National Anthem at the Celtics Game. I got to sing, although I was a nervous wreck singing in front of 17,000 people, I sang it. I went after it, sang it, and got the applause. Something about singing in front of that many people causes a crazy rush that I can’t even describe. Amazing!

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I would also like to include that I’ve had 2 songs that are on an amazon TV show called “New Dogs, Old Tricks”.  My song “Young Love was featured on episode 10, and my song Christmas Now which I collaborated with my friend and classmate Danny Rivera (also featured in Boston Yoyager) was featured in episode 11.  This song “Christmas Now” was also submitted for an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Original Song.”
